So I know it may be a bit early to start these, but I'm thinking I might be putting up a few "insert band here" for Progpower X threads. I'd like to see who agrees with me on some band and just MAYBE we'll catch Glenn's attention :)

Galneryus! Good heavy power metally Japanese goodness.

I'm expecting Tammy to be one of the first to reply to this. Come on, you know you want some Sirent Reveration!

The problem is that unless its a headliner, it costs too much. Flight cost (especially if he has to deal with inflexibility of arrival/departure dates) can be $4k+ per person. Cheapest flights are around $1100. With a 1000 ticket venue it just isn't realistic unless the band takes the loss on their own and hopes to make it back with merch + US touring.

1) I would definitely hit up some merch.

2) Seems I forgot how to post Youtube vids.

*nods* We all know I want to see this band. They're not perfect, but I enjoy them immensely. However, as Cheiron pointed out, it's difficult. Maybe if a band from Japan could come over for 2 or 3 shows and split the cost with the promoters, themselves, and record labels if possible. Who knows... I don't know how BAR Fest got Concerto Moon over here just to be an opener. Maybe they already live in the U.S.? That helps if they live here, but not many of them do.

Well Tokyo to say LAX is a tad cheaper (oddly not by as much as one might think...).

I'm guessing label support.

Meh...I would rather have Sex Machineguns. They'd also probably be a bit more acceptable to most of this fest. Sort of like seeing Loudness but without the suck! They also put on a good live show and they're sort of goofy and oddball in the same way as Mustasche. Lastly, they've played a show in the states before (in Nashville of all places).

I'll be posting my opinion of an oddball band that should play the fest... but I'd like to keep my opinion posts few and far between.

Sort of like seeing Loudness without the suck?! Blasphemy sir, blasphemy! Well that is unless you're referring to the Loudness era with the American singer which, in my opinion, was an abomination.

Wok and woll kwazy night! :headbang:

I saw the Sex Machineguns when I used to be stationed in Japan. They are great live! I'd love to see them in the U.S. but I agree it is wicked expensive. Used to cost my family and I $4-6000 to come home on leave and that was thru military oriented travel agencies with good discounts. I couldn't imagine what a Japanes travel agent/ticket agency would charge...

Virtually everyone I know who saw them on their last tour thought they were bloody awful.

You're still talking about Loudness, right?

I'm glad you posted these videos. When you were doing that, I was off on the other thread writing my reply. I came within seconds of posting a Sex Machineguns vid. Actually, I had a list of about 8 vids to post, but thought I'd save it for later.

Anyway, apparently Sex Machineguns reformed with 2 new members in 2007, but I haven't seen or heard anything from them. Have they done anything lately? Either way, I'm up for a Sex Machineguns show! :kickass:

A band like Galneryus would be cheaper if PPUSA was in a place like LA, Chicago, DC or NYC. Reason is that they are major hubs, and some flights do go non-stop there, which can make life easier and cheaper. Problem is it is in Atlanta, and costs do go up because in the eyes of business and the airlines, like it or not, Atlanta is out of the way. Unless someone agrees to sponsor with $20K up front aka a cashier's check mailed to a certain promoter before PPUSA IX(After this incident regarding the Riverside sponsorship, Glenn would be stupid to do it otherwise) no way in hell does Galneryus, or any other band on the other side of the Pacific Rim, see the light of day in Atlanta unless they buy a ticket.

As for BARFest, yes, it is much cheaper to go through Frisco. They cut down on the bands from 10 to 8, and has gone more prog. But, with heavyweights such as LTE and Jeff Scott Soto headlining, Concerto Moon was a logical move as an opener. I just hope their will be a BARFest III.

Peace,
Ray C.

You are correct. We thought hard on the spot we wanted to CM, and because they were a late addition to the fest that was the spot available to them also they are not really well known, lets be honest. They live in Japan as well..

Who's debating Concerto Moon being an opener? I only mentioned that you were able to get the band over here for a spot other than headliner to prove that it's a.) possible, and b.) the band doesn't have to be a headliner.

Still curious to know how much work went into that, who contacted who, and who's footing the bill..... but I know that's a lot to ask and I respect it if you don't want to say. I'm just curious for the sake of the conversation. Either way, I'm turning emo and cutting my wrists for not being able to be there. :erk:

Stingray: Atlanta -is- a major hub. Its one of the major international hubs. And there are direct flights from Atlanta to Tokyo.

Yes, Cheiron, you are right. How ignorant of me. There is exactly ONE non-stop from Tokyo to Atlanta via Delta. I stand corrected.

Actually more than a few people have debated it.. As for footing the bill, its not for me to say. Lets just say that Concerto Moon is very happy to be playing BARfest and the US for the first time.

I dont think that CM is headline material for any US festival, that is a personal statement. Their support and followers are rare in the US as it has been shown, that is obviously outside these forums and our groups, people would probably disagree but you have US sales and just the fact that they have really gotten much talk until we got them for the fest.

This isn't the whole picture though. With somewhat good frequency when Japanese bands play one-off shows over here, it's because they are at that time recording an album in a studio here (99% of the time LA or maybe NY). I actually believe this was the case when Sex Machineguns did their show in Nashville.

I'm not exactly sure but I don't think Atlanta is a major hub for recording studios that are known for producing albums of our liking (though I'm sure there's a lot of rap music produced there). I'm sure it would be quite possible to pick up a Japanese band on the cheap who is going to be recording an album here in the states around that time...although finding such things out and arranging to play a festival then might prove difficult.

Also, $20k is an obscene figure and a gross overestimation. 6-7k is much more reasonable given today's airfare prices...but would not be a cost justifiable regardless.
