Gamers Thread

Someone posted this on Gamefaqs and I figured I'd post it here.

Halo: Mediocre Game at the right time.

1. I'll start off with this fact: IT REVOLUTIONIZED NOTHING
Dual Wielding? Been done before.
"Revolutionized counsel shooters" I hear a lot. And you're kidding yourself.
You're in a robotic suit, fighting aliens. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE NOT ONCE. EVER.

2. Originality and place in gaming history aside "It's fun rite?"
Yea maybe for a few days. But people who play it obsessively just don't have anything better to play.
How many weapons were in the first game? About 10? and 4 vehicles? That's some pretty limited potentials. Admitting controls are fine and easy to pick up, I just see a very limited play scenarios.

3. "Multiplayer is great, you just haven't played multiplayer" No, I play multiplayer exclusively, because the campaign is crap. It's pure crap. But the Xbox live community is bad. All the stereotypes and jokes about it are right. With my friends, it's fun for maybe an hour, then we'll put it Time Splitters 3, SSB:M, ToS multiplayer, Metal Slug, etc. There are plenty games in all genres more fun than Halo.

4. GRAPHICS LOL. No, graphics are mediocre. They really are. Please be quit about them for the last time?

5. "THEN WHY IS IT SO WELL KNOWN?"
Microsoft has excellent marketing. Seriously some of the best marketing ever. They never dare release it during another big game release, they hype it like the Apocalypse, they known their target audience and they hit them well.

I never saw anything remarkable about halo or that gears of war game (outside of that it was very fun with my buddies)

I just rented this RPG game "Kameo elements of power" for xbox 360

should be interesting

What an amazing argument, clearly this guy knows what he is talking about :Smug:. Seriously though his main reason for saying it is unoriginal, even for consoles as he points out, is because it's sci-fi. Nothing like sweeping generalizations to seal your iron-clad argument!

This is borderline laughable. The amount of weapons and vehicles does not necessarily make a game better or allow it to have more gameplay scenarios. If their is one main thing that makes Halo great it is precisely this point: their are a near unlimited amount of scenarios that can take place within a specific area. Don't like how you chose to attack the Covenant the first time? reload and try a different approach. Repeat until you find the one you like or just keep replaying it for sheer unpredictable fun. In other words, the emergent gameplay possibilites in Halo is one of its most satisfying and enjoyable attributes.

. Yet again this guy seems to enjoy making controversial arguments without examples to show for it. Regarding the Halo community, it can be annoying at times but, for the most part, I am able to play for extended times with a high level of enjoyment and satisfaction. And no, TS3 multiplayer isn't even better than Goldeneye's let alone Halo's.

4. GRAPHICS LOL. No, graphics are mediocre. They really are. Please be quit about them for the last time?

Consider the time the first Halo released back in 2001. What other console games were competing with it graphically? Rouge Squadron? SSBM? MGS2? All great games but no where's in the same league as the graphical finesse of Combat Evolved. The sequel was equally visually pleasing for its time when compared to other console games as well. If he is referring to Halo 3, the game is incomplete at this stage, and while I do not argue that the game does not look as good as Gears of War say, it is certainly a huge step above, graphically, other shooters like Resistance.

Yet again another lame argument. Marketing does not control game reviews. Let's see their averages at Gamerankings shall we? Halo: CE 95.6%, Halo 2 94.6%. The former is based on 92 reviews while the latter exceeds 100. You cannot possibly argue that all these reviews are wrong or off the mark simply because of marketing (if you do, most likely your favorite games would have to be subjected to the same criticism). No, Halo is popular for one reason: it is the pinnacle of FPS on consoles, plain and simple.

Now I honestly don't care if you dislike the game or even despise it (as you seem to do) but to say that this anonymous GameFAQs poster puts forth a solid argument for saying the game is 'awful' or 'worthless' is absurd. None of his points are sound as he seems far more content blindly bashing the game based off of extremely generalized instances.

so i'm credited in this combo video for a game most of you have never even heard of

A tank with a skullface fighting what appears to be a nun with 2 revolvers? I'll never understand Japanese culture.

On a more serious note I noticed nearly all those combos were being executed in Practice mode, they were cool and all but it would have been better if the other guy was actually able to fight back a little bit.

the point of combo videos is to demonstrate combos that are too impractical to do in matches due to weird/unsafe setups, too difficult execution etc...

1. Metroid Prime, though I would actually probably call that a FPA sooner than FPS, is multiple times better than Halo could ever dream of being.

I never said he made any good points, just wanted to post it.

I agree that Metroid Prime 1 is better than Halo. However it is not a FPS, it is more of a FPA as you said. Thus I wouldn't put it in the same category as Halo. Halo is basically pure combat, Metroid is about adventuring, discovering, upgrading, backtracking and boss battles with minor combat instances thrown into the mix.

If you don't agree to some extent with what he is saying then what, exactly, was the point in posting it?

step aside, huge Halo fan here!

but whatever, I play alot of video games, but who doesn't really...

How many consoles do you guys have?

I have 6 systems Xbox, Xbox 360, Gameboy Color, Gamecube and N64

Edit: Oh and the Wii which kicks total fucking ass
