It's a shame I can't play Neverwinter Nights 2. I borrowed it from a friend and it's sluggish as hell on my system. Does anyone have any inexprensive upgrade suggestions for optimal performance of newer games(Oblivion, FEAR, etc.)? I have a Celeron 1.7 GHZ with 768 MB of RAM and a GeforceFX 5500 video card.

Looks good but it'll still suck something awful.

earlier in the thread you said it was at best above average

above average = awful? :erk:

anyways, this one is supposed to be all about realism. No more rags to riches type story. It's going to be a gritty story of survival. Think concealed weapon not rocket launchers.

I was kidding really - it looks to be good, but no way I'll be able to play it due to lack of PS3 or 360.

Anyways, I'm really anticipating Metroid Prime 3 :D The release date seems to but August 20th D: That is toooooo long to wait but it'll be so worth it.

yea it should be very good. Dan houser compares the difference from the last GTA to this GTA to be the difference between the old 2D grand theft auto games and GTA 3. Game is also shaping up to be much more difficult than the previous GTAs which is awesome.

Yeah, something I think would be cool is if they got rid of those silly fucking cheats. No one I know ever plays the game for what it is and just use the cheats to go around and blow shit up, which is one reason why I've grown to hate the GTA fanbase.

Oh well, if this game turns out good enough I may have to pick up a 360 (been thinking of doing this for a while due to some games coming out like Bioshock.)

I haven't played my 360 since I completed the Shivering Isles achievements for Oblivion. I need new games.

GTA is so much more fun without the cheats. It's a shame more people don't realize that.

I can't wait for the 3rd installment of Disciples . Fantastic turn-based strategy ala Heroes of Might and MAgic but with a more thought- through troops upgrade system and a couple of other interesting touches. Starcraft 2 definitely looks promising too.

yea that's the casual players. Hardcore players will try to beat the game 100% without any cheats. The games have alot to offer, both to people looking for a quick thrill and the serious players who want 100+ hours of gameplay.

this new GTA is supposed to be much much more serious and gritty in it's tone/atmosphere/environment etc... There will still be weapons like rocket launchers, but the way the game is constructed, it's more for a realistic experience (IE if you pull out a weapon in public, I believe the crowd around you will start running away from you).

It should be alot of fun just exploring the game. It's supposed to be incredibly detailed, the houses look different from one to another in a specific area. There is much more detail horizontally and vertically. The draw distance is unreal (you can see what's happening on a faraway bridge), on top of that there are no loading times whatsoever. The game loads once and after that one time, you can go anywhere in the game with no loading :kickass: :kickass:

get Kameo - elements of power. it's an enjoyable little RPG/adventure type game

Since I play Oblivion and F.E.A.R., can actually help you a little...
You will need a faster CPU (relatively cheap compared to the rest of the items).
Depending on your motherboard:

1. Go with a nice AMD; I have a 3700+, but you can easily buy dual core cpu's for a damned good price now (basically you and I both need to upgrade in this department).

2. Ram - get 2 gigs; I prefer OCZ (lifetime warrenty + low latency) - the lower the latency (the numbers on the ram) the faster it performs. And never use one stick, always pair them up; a one gig stick will be slower than two 512 sticks together.
----Now, your motherboard will limit how much ram you can use effectively. If you have an old board I would suggest upgrading, because the amount of ram you can use is dependent on how much your front bus can handle. If your motherboard can't use all the ram, you are wasting money.

3. As for cards...I only know about nvidia - I have a 6800 ultra which is basically just a tad bit behind the mid 7000 series. But I feel lag when playing oblivion on uber high settings. If you want a PC for gaming, you will need to get a card with at least 512megs of ram built in. This means go with nvidia 7000...or 8000 series. Either way, you will be spending a lot of fucking money on a card. Maybe some others know os some good cards for a good price.

If you over-clock your system then you can go with a little lower specs, but I don't rec it, seeing as if you fuck up you can destroy your system entirely (I've seen it happen three times..so many delicious tears)

Try Newegg.com for everything - pretty good selections, and when they have sales....oh my oh my oh my. You could also try Fry's, but whenever I go there, there is no sale....just myths surrounding one :erk:

Hopefully BioWare's latest epic RPG Mass Effect releases in July. I can't wait to play this one!
