Gamers Thread

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the DS is good, so if you have a DS I recommend getting that. There's a new one out for the DS as well but I haven't played that one yet. Someone told me it was pretty good but also very short.

I don't know why anyone would buy a 360, unless you just have money to throw away. It's pretty dumb to buy a new console at launch, or even within the first year. There aren't many games within the first year, and 3rd party developers are still learning to make good games for the hardware. It's better to wait a year, when prices have dropped and the library looks a bit better. You can also tell which consoles have the brightest future.

Actually, if you prefer perfect emulation, you might want to buy a PS3 soon, before they take out the original PS1 and 2 graphics chips. Or, if you live in Europe, you're kind of screwed on that front.

Considering how inexpensive the PS2 is, and that most people already have one, that feature is pretty expendable. Anything that can drop that monster price tag is going to help them a lot. The local stores just have stacks of PS3s that no one wants.

I'm hoping it comes out on PC soon, I've been wanting to play Shadow of the Colossus for a looong time now.

And again, can anyone rec some high quality pc games?

I recently beat God of War and the sequel. They're both essential action-adventure games for the ps2.

Has anyone here played Shadow of the Colossus for the ps2? I just started to play it last week. For anyone who hasn't heard of it yet, you explore the world and fight these big ass motherfuckers.

Good game. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and feel of the game. The art design was stellar as well. However, the gameplay was lacking I thought since all you do is fight massive bosses and while they do have varying strategies to take them out, it all comes down to the same basic gameplay: get on the creature somehow and then stab the magic 'scars' repeatedly.

God of War 2 is a great game too. Just far too short. I preferred the first one though.

I'm not much of a gamer but I do own these games for the PC...kinda dated, since I've had some for a few years.

Max Payne - My favourite game.
Max Payne II - It was alright, a disappointing sequel.
GTA III - When it came out it was brilliant, and it I like the story/characters better than on the new ones.
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
Mafia - Great game, somewhat challenging I remember, it took me exactly a month to beat.
Manhunt - currently playing this one. I like it though there isn't much variety to the game.

You should definitely keep your eye on Alan Wake, its from Remedy, the developers of Max Payne.

Thanks, and I checked it out and it looks interesting but I think I would need to buy a brand new top-of-the-line computer to play that game :p My computer was pretty good when I bought it three years ago...

How far into it are you? After the "Smilies" level, the game takes a pretty big turn.

Well, it took me quite a while to get a hold of this game, and so I began playing and stopped for a bit, but now I just started again recently.

The scene entitled "Doing Time." I am currently at the point where I have to make it to the shower block, via the floor above. I had just did the "1 violent and 1 gruesome kill" part - and honestly, I had no idea those types of kills even existed, I only knew of the hasty kill. I never read up on the game, just begain playing it. No wonder I never had any really high scores lol :p

Definetly go back and replay it doing as many "gruesome" kills as you can. There are instance where you just don't have time, but usually you can do it. I think there are a couple of weapons where this is true, but with the wire you find early in the "Skinz" level, if you do the "gruesome" kill, he actually saws the guys head off and you can use it like a brick, bottle or can.

After only about 2 or so hours of playing the Halo 3 beta, my verdict is already in: awesome.

Someone posted this on Gamefaqs and I figured I'd post it here.

Halo: Mediocre Game at the right time.

1. I'll start off with this fact: IT REVOLUTIONIZED NOTHING
Dual Wielding? Been done before.
"Revolutionized counsel shooters" I hear a lot. And you're kidding yourself.
You're in a robotic suit, fighting aliens. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE NOT ONCE. EVER.

2. Originality and place in gaming history aside "It's fun rite?"
Yea maybe for a few days. But people who play it obsessively just don't have anything better to play.
How many weapons were in the first game? About 10? and 4 vehicles? That's some pretty limited potentials. Admitting controls are fine and easy to pick up, I just see a very limited play scenarios.

3. "Multiplayer is great, you just haven't played multiplayer" No, I play multiplayer exclusively, because the campaign is crap. It's pure crap. But the Xbox live community is bad. All the stereotypes and jokes about it are right. With my friends, it's fun for maybe an hour, then we'll put it Time Splitters 3, SSB:M, ToS multiplayer, Metal Slug, etc. There are plenty games in all genres more fun than Halo.

4. GRAPHICS LOL. No, graphics are mediocre. They really are. Please be quit about them for the last time?

5. "THEN WHY IS IT SO WELL KNOWN?"
Microsoft has excellent marketing. Seriously some of the best marketing ever. They never dare release it during another big game release, they hype it like the Apocalypse, they known their target audience and they hit them well.
