Isn't the old FFIII on some sort of compilation disc? That was a really fun game. It introduced almost all of the staples in the series. It was way better than IV, which I would put pretty far down the list. I even sort of liked FFII, but the broken game mechanics were a pretty serious issue.

I still need to get around to V, VIII, and IX. I hear FFV is really similar to III, so I might like it.

nope, and i dont think i will, until movies stop coming out in normal dvd format and i need a blueray player

Just bought the orange box

Lucky bastard. I gotta get a new comp before I can get it, as my hard drive is full and my video card and ram shitty. I can't play any games past 2005.

Right now I'm playing Fallout Tactics, which is a damn good game. Drags a bit after a while but is still worth playing.

IIIj was recently remade and released on the DS, the US III which is actually VI was released on the SNES, rereleased with (I believe) Chrono Trigger on the PSX, and again rereleased (with additional content) on the GBA.

V isn't really all that similar to VI - like it is really the last of the 'old school' FF games in that it still had a lot more freedom in regards to the character creation with the job system and what not and storywise it isn't all that great.

Stop your nonsense, VII is not even in the top 5.

I think I'm going to download a translation patch for FFIIIj because I hear all the time that it is the best of the 8 bit era.

I was referring to the original FFIII earlier. It has the job system and stuff. It's far and away better than I and II. Like I said, much better than IV as well. I might be able to dig up the translated rom.

Not really, though I have some friends who are dead set on it. Suikoden II is the best PSX rpg though. :)

I played Suikoden (not II) ages ago when it came out. It was kinda sorta cool, but it was really relentless & I wound up getting stuck probably over halfway through the game & I gave up.

Now I was a big Final Fantasy nut job as a kid. About the only one I didn't play much because it bored me was 8. I didn't play any of the re-released ones either. 6 & 7 were the best, followed by 10 which I have a big soft spot for. 10 had a some flaws though, in that it was impossible to get everything because of the games (like dodging 200 lightning bolts & the butterfly game) were so hard. I got nearly everything though & I even beat that big final boss Nemesis you fight after you've done everything in the monster hunts. He was a fucking bitch.

I got FF12 in February & I still haven't beat it. It's a cool game, but it has something about it that kind of keeps me from getting into it as much as I would like to. I also find it impossible to follow the story completely, unlike the others. I'm to the part where I can go fight Bahumut on the airship when I want to, so I know I'm far. I'm very strong. I completed the license board long long ago, I have all the hunts done except 1 or 2 very hard ones, I think I have all but one Esper, & I'm on about level 67 with Vaan while over level 60 with everyone else. I don't have shit for trophies though (I only have 1 out of like 60...). I haven't put any Espers on any of my guys (except Belias cause I had to put him on someone, so I chose Vaan) though because I don't know which guys I should give which Esper. That is a huge game...

I like the story of FF12 a lot, I feel it is really good. I think that it reallllllyyyyy makes up for the lack of character development. Really it kind of reads as a history book where you get the basic knowledge of the people involved and then just get told the events. It is a pretty unique take on an RPG anyways.

FFXII was really fun. The story got weird at the end though. Where the fuck did that giant Bahamut airship come from? Didn't make any sense. It was so easy to get sidetracked doing all the hunts and item farming that I often forgot what I was supposed to do next or why I was going somewhere.

BTW, the final dungeon should only take around an hour, and a lot of that is cutscenes. Only the last boss's final form is hard at all.

I've still not beaten XII yet haha, I just kind of got sidetracked by other games and the fact that I got pissed off because I was so badly underleveled at the point of the game I was in that I couldn't progress at all.

I agree completely. None of the characters are very deep or developed. I want to see Vaan bang Penello, but nothing ever happens. Cloud banged Tifa goddamnit. Those were great characters. Vaan doesn't even really seem like a main character. Ashe seems like more of a main character, but she is really damn lame & cliche.

The reason the story is so hard to follow is because I've been playing the game for nearly a year (slowly) & I can't keep track of all of it. There is way too much stuff going back & fourth in the story... I hope it gives you some sort of way to replay the game, because I would like to rush through it for a second time at some point to get a better grasp on the story.

Where are you at? I'm pretty far, but I'm not going to give anything away... :erk:

Well really the reason why there is no development of Vann or Panello is because Basch was originally supposed to be the main character but the last game that the development team had worked on (The Bouncer) had a hard faced main male lead and it bombed (not for that reason, it was because of the sluggish controls and otherwise being a bad game) so they threw in those two.

Ashe is really the main character. I guess it's such a video game convention that the first guy you get is the main guy that it's nearly impossible for people to consider any other option. Every one says that Vaan was a lame main guy. But he's really not the main guy. He has some motivation, but Ashe and Basch drive the story way more.
