Gamers Thread

They didn't have that in my area; they told all the employees a week before closing.

Anyway, newegg.com for the win.

They will more than likely not tell any of the employees until the day they close, which is exactly what happened to the store near my house.

I once had to work a Security job where we had to go to tell a bunch of people in an office that they were all fired & they needed to pack their things up to leave. We were reinforcement in case anyone got out of hand. People were definitely pissed... That would suck if that happened to me.

NEVAR!
srsly, all the best games are on pc or due to come out on pc. Saves the trouble of deciding which console to buy.

Got mah noo pee cee on order! Quad core, 4gb of RAM, and an 8800gts (the new one)comin' up!

PC gaming is only good if you are hardcore into RTS games and/or modding. Almost all PC games come to consoles in some form whereas a ton of the great stuff on consoles remains exclusive to that platform. Not to mention console gaming is far cheaper.

everything is better on pc, cos you don't have fixed graphics, which means you can pump everything up to maximum.
Pc also has better controls, I find. WASD and a mouse is soooo much more responsive than any console controller.

Some of the best PC games are RPGs and adventure games from years gone by. Now it's mostly eye candy over content. Not that I have any problem with that.

I forgot to mention the MMO genre. Also, I am pretty sure most consoles do offer mouse/keyboard support so that really seems like a none issue to me. Besides, PC gamers will have to either wait or never have the chance to play some of the best games there are (last gen) like RE4, Metroid Prime, God of War, Eternal Darkness etc. Cost aside, their can be no denying that consoles by far have much more support from devs and easily more quality titles to choose from. Unless of course all you play are MMOs and RTS games.

I'd rather have an expensive ($1200) pc that can also be my home entertainment center (linked throughout my entire house no less - remote controlled if I feel like it), television, dvd player, internet access, gaming rig (with free online content, modifications, patches, etc.) for the next three years than buy a $400-$600 system with $60 games and no free online access that would either break down (fuck you sony) or be replaced with an updated console and have every fucking new game that comes out only be playable on the new version of said console (again, fuck ou sony - fuck you and all your ps2's).

Also, good luck with any type of editing on a console - picture, video, sound, it's all impossible on those things; give me a good computer anyday.

But I must concede one thing, it is definitely nice knowing that you will never have to fuck with settings on consoles in order to play a game or program. After all, ever game is made for a specific system, whereas for pc's you have to meet the general requirements... it can be a real kick in the ass.

PC Gaming is, generally great. Games are cheap, graphics are better, controls are better, everything near enough is better!
Last console I bought was the Nintendo 64. PC gaming has done me ever since. A cheap mid range graphics card every year or so, a new processor every couple of years and you're laughing.

Tiberium Wars is great fun just now, and Bioshock is pretty cool too. DiRT was shite though, stay away from that crap!

^Exactly; if I have the money to blow on something like a console, I might - but I see no real point. Unless the console itself is pretty damn unique (example: the Wii), then I'm sticking with the pc's.

SPend £500 on a console that'll last 2 years max, or buy myself a Jackson SL3 that will last me a lifetime? Easy choice.

Go for the PC over a console. £70 GFX card every 18 months, £30 processor every two years. OF course I'll need a real upgrade eventually but you're talking every four or five years for a total overhaul, not every two years like the consoles. And a new motherboard, GFX card, processor and memory will STILL be cheaper than a console!

And what console has the Total War series, done correctly???? Give me a PC any day.

I don't know about you but my NES is from the early 90ies and still in working order, same with my SNES and PS2. Why would they only last 2 years?
Are you talking about bleeding edge? Fyi there were 6 years between the release of PS2 and PS3 (7 years in the EU). You most certainly will have upgraded or bought a new computer for more then what a PS3 costs in those years if you want to be as bleeding edge when it comes to gaming on your computer. I like computer gaming and all, but saying it is cheaper then console gaming is NOT right.

Computer's are easier to update too. With new games and graphics technology, all you need to upgrade is the graphics card (currently at most $300 for the high end ones), maybe more RAM (VERY cheap, you can get a pack of two 2MB sticks for less than $50), maybe a faster processor (I actually don't know how much these cost), but all in all, it's cheaper to upgrade a computer than to buy a new console for $400-500 dollars every few years.

Got damnit Vilden. Also know I have low standards for computer stuff, so I'm not talking about the most absolute high end equipment here.

In the end, consoles get more better games than do PCs as most every PC game gets ported to console in some usable form (even RTS' nowadays are, though I am not such a fan of those on console) whereas not every AAA console game comes to PC (Nintendo games? forget it). This simple fact combined with a much cheaper entrance fee sells it for me. For instance, I could probably by all 3 current consoles as it stands now for cheaper than it would cost me to get a middle of the road PC gaming rig. I would also have access to far larger library of high quality games than on PC.
