Loved Icewind Dale 2 and Neverwinter Nights so pretty stoked for this

That battle with the scorpion was sick

Liked the banter between cloud and barrett

Battle system is perfect

But most importantly... Tifa my original waifu

Flashbacks to endless fapping for her in high school

Not impressed tbh. After playing XIII and XV I can't get too excited about a FF game with an action-based combat system. And I didn't like what they did to the music. The boss battle theme just loses all flair in that orchestrated rendition. Not saying you can't rearrange Uematsu's work, but at least mix in some electronic sounds with the orchestration to match the industrial theme of the game or something, that fully orchestrated version sounds generic as fuck.

Nintendo killed it this year. No fart-huffing nonsense, just game reveal after game reveal, most looked fun as shit. No More Heroes III, Banjo-Kazooie for Smash Bros, new Luigi's Mansion, Sword of Mana collection, Trials of Mana remake, Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, new Animal Crossing (though delayed until next year), Mario and Sonic Olympics, Contra Rogue Corps, Daemon X Machina, Panzer Dragoon, Ni No Kuni port, Empire of Sin. I'm pretty excited for the next 12 months of Switch gaming, this year has sucked pretty bad so far.

Did you enjoy FF15? I never completed 13 because I thought it was awful so I haven’t even bothered with 15.

13 and 15 were both shit. Braindead autopilot battle systems, boring ass forgettable characters

I should clarify that I didn't actually play 15 much myself, but I watched friends play it extensively while I was in the US. Super Eyepatch Wolf has an in-depth video review of it, where he talks (among other things) about how shallow and mindless the battle system is. From what I've seen of the game, this review is pretty much spot on.

I guess it's possible the VII remake could be the FF game to finally get action-based combat right, but their track record isn't good. :(

On the topic of FF games, looks like FFVIII is getting a remaster. I'm actually pretty excited for this, as I usually emulate the PSX-era FF games but I always have trouble getting VIII to emulate properly for one reason or another. It'll be nice to have a PC version of it that hopefully isn't ass.

I've heard people argue that the paradigm shift battle system is actually fairly intricate and skill-based. I don't know it intimately enough to argue, but I suppose they're right. For me though, the problem was that it made battles so chaotic that the basic pleasure of getting stronger to deal bigger damage numbers was gone. I couldn't even tell that I was getting stronger. I got to the part where the game finally opens up and lets you do hunts or whatever they call them, which is supposed to be the best part of 13, and realized I just didn't care about developing my characters further.

Ff7r battle system looks like it’ll be even better than ff12’s and, dare I say it, dragon age’s (both of which I loved)
