Gaming PCs are like, a billion dollars. Also, they blow if you want to have your friends over to play games.

Don't shit on the Wii. I'm sick of teenagers trying to act all grown up because they only play M rated games. Super Mario Galaxy is way more fun than Gears or War or some shitty FPS. Just because it's not "OMG grafix" doesn't mean it sucks.

The problem with all consoles of this generation is that none have any good games at all. Seriously, 360 only got boring shooters and Wii only got gimmick games that wants to use the new controller and ps3 doesn't have anything at all yet. Super Mario Galaxy is like the only game on Wii that is worth something, and buying a console for one game? Don't think so.

It is disappointing how no 3rd party developers have really utilized the Wii controller to great effect yet. I do like the Tiger Woods golf games on there. The controller makes that game exponentially better than it would be on another console.

I saw this really cool tech demo where a guy basically swaps the sensor and the remote, which tracks his head movements in a way so that the depth and perspective on screen are directly related to his real life position. This has amazing potential for shooter-type games, as does the remote aiming. I bet someone will put together a kickass shooter game sooner or later. The key will be picking a cool art style that people like. There are enough uber-realistic shooters in this generation anyway.

Common misconception.

If you buy something from alienware, yes. But alienware's are made of fail.

I built my pc myself for $400 2 years ago and it runs COD4 fine at 1280 * whatever at high settings. I built my friend's computer for $600 a year ago. That thing runs Oblivion with almost all settings maxed at 1280 * whatever with issues. The xBox version of Oblivion, from what I've been told, does not run smoothly and has longer load times. It also doesn't look as good. Or support mods (which is the whole point of the game, anyways...).

Let's see...360 is like what? $400?
Big-ass tv...$2-3000?

versus

Badass homemade computer - $6-800
Bigass monitor (upwards of 24 inches!) - $600

Computer can be upgraded. You can use it for the internet, computery things, word processing, etc. You can use it to download games, if you want.
Computer games are all under $50. How much do xBox games cost? $60?

So...no. Long run it's more cost-effective to build your own gaming PC.

Possibly the only problem I have with computer gaming is that it's much more of a hassle to play multi-player type games with friends at your house.

No it isn't? You need to upgrade a computer alot more often then a console. And you don't need a bigass tv for it either. And the PS3 version of Oblivion doesn't lag behind because it uses the built in harddrive, and lastly oblivion sucks anyways so who cares?. :-D

i just received a wii, and it's fun as shit. It was a present, and I actually chose it over the ps3 and 360. true, the graphics aren't as good, but it just looked more FUN. It's not as if Nintendo really wanted to build a machine with better graphics capabilities and couldn't, it's that they're the only ones still thinking about the industry in terms of fun and innovation.... ok, that's not totally true, but you see my point.
it is.

Or maybe Nintendo is using out-dated hardware with gimmicky controllers. Sure the first party games for the Wii are badass (SM Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart, Metriod Prime 3, Legend of Zelda) but third party support is so horrible it isnt even funny. Seriously, how many damn games focused around "mini-games" can you stomach? Its alright though because Nintendo will definitley have to come out with a new console a good while before Sony or Microsoft. Maybe you can watch your DVDs on the next console?

You must be fucking kidding.
You can upgrade a computer more often than a console. You don't need too - there's an endless number of amazing computer games available over the internet very easily.
Oblivion rules.

You must let me play that thing sometime.

From where out of your ass are you pulling $2-3,000 dollars for a TV from? You can get a very nice, big-but-not-huge TV for around $800. Assuming you don't already have one. And you mention all the additional things a PC does while neglecting the value of a nice TV for movies and television.

Also, consoles have a lifespan of around 5 years. There is no way a PC runs new games for 5 years without significant upgrades. The smart thing to do with consoles is to wait 1-2 years before getting the current generation so that the price drops, and there's a decent library of games. It would have been dumb to buy PS3 when it first came out and cost $600 and had no games. Six months from now, it'll probably be $350-375 and have a fair amount of games, some of which can be obtained cheaply used. Have fun getting used PC games.

Yes, but if you want to play new games (which is what I though we were talking about) you need to upgrade your computer more often the a console, I can't see how there is any arguing in this really. The PS2 was released 2000 and there are still games comming for it. At that time Geforce 2 was the top of the line graphic card, I've still got it, good luck running any newer games on it.

And you can chip your console and download endless number of games for your console too. :)

BTW: most people don't buy new TVs or new Screens everytime they upgrade, so you pretty much prove yourself with your numbers that you are wrong? :p
