In light of current events, I rescind my efforts to avoid this thread. What a miserable, miserable thing the ending of Mass Effect 3 was. I don't know where to begin after having spent hours and hours already ranting through various other mediums. All I can say is that EAware has trolled us hard and I look forward to the DLC that will right their wrongdoings. If the rumors about "The Truth" aren't true, well then they can go ahead and die in a fire. They've already lost me as a future customer, anyhow. I'm still upset about the DLC content that was in large part already on the disc. Despite them saying otherwise, Javik is completely playable without downloading "From Ashes." That alone is enough to warrant it being free. On top of that, I'm sick of EA combating used game sales with these day one tactics and online activation codes. In this economy some people can only afford used games and they are just as deserving to get the full experience. So, okay. I settled for the From Ashes DLC anyways and bought it. Fine. That's fine. A few extra bucks for something I'd gladly pay another $20 for just because I love the series so much and I'd empty my pockets for it out of love for the franchise. As far as the nightmarish and awful Deus Ex ending goes...
I'm all out of words. Okay, no I'm not. WHAT THE FUCK? It's a terrible cop-out that BiowarEA is mindlessly, conceitedly, and arrogantly defending. The fact that they said out of the gates "a lot of people won't like it" is enough to tell me that they don't care about their fans' opinions, just their wallets. Yes, I know you can't please everyone, but
you can sure as hell try. The director defended the open-endedness saying that he likes the idea of it being that way because of the discussions that it brings and the fact that it allows the player and community to kind of decide what happens from there. What kind of bullshit is that? You don't buy a book with blank pages in the back to write your own epilogue, do you? Okay, so, if that WAS the writers' intent, why? I understand that it is their story, but with what they promised us, isn't it our story as well? I think after a certain point, especially in a video game, the writer should keep in mind what the fans want and be just a tad selfless to support the desires of so many people. We've emptied our wallets for them, the least they could do is give us 15 minutes of closure instead of space god and multicolored explosions. Also, they could explain how everyone magically ended up on the Normandy or at LEAST what happened to the rest of the crew after said 'splosions. As far as allowing the fans to "decide" what happens? All logic points to a miserable, miserable time for everyone that does survive. All logic points to every race being in dire straits and probably dying out anyways, but in more painful ways (e.g. starvation.) Even the ending that would serve a better chance at long term survival for the crew (synthesis) is also pretty flawed. So, thanks EAware, you couldn't even give us something definitively painful, you wanted us to have the pain of having to create our own miserable outcomes? Regardless, Shepard goes from Shepard to sheep in 3 seconds. The Shepard we know wouldn't blindly submit to the childish and unfounded notions of Casper the friendly Space Ghost without at least asking a fucking question first. All this aside, the whole thing stinks and even the idea that they did it just so they could milk us for a real ending down the line makes me sick to my core. Will I buy DLC that corrects the ending and everything else that comes out for Mass Effect 3? You bet your black ass. Will I ever buy anything from EAware again? Hellll naw.
