Gaming Thread

I'm a bit apprehensive about it myself, tbh. I'm not completely against P2W, however, mainly due to the fact that it's not a PvP game. IMO, P2W only applies to MMOs with PvP.

Jesus Christ, just look at all those fucking acronyms. I'm such a fucking nerd.

Honestly, if they do it like Dust 514, F2P will be awesome.

I was wondering how it would be play to win, unless you're fighting other people with the fancy weapons that you have to purchase. Turns out that's exactly what it is, so I'll just stick with SP campaigns.

But then again, who the hell would want to PvP in Diablo? It will just depend on who can mash their left mouse button the fastest...fuck that noise...it's a hack n' slash. As long as you can play the story alone or in MP, I don't see how P2W will affect it at all; there are so many better PvP games out there that I wouldn't even waste my time on Diablo 3.

I see it as a non-player in the grand scheme of things.

I'm with you, but the problem is by buying the game we're supporting Blizzard's money-driven mentality. It's like buying Mass Effect 3 and not planning to get any DLC, it's still supporting their unfinished ending DLC approach.

Man, oh man, Atlus is truly the last bastion of hope for RPG fans. Devil Survivor 2 was great, and didn't hold my hand in the least. Can't wait for Persona 5, although it's the most user-friendly of the SMT games.

I tried to tell you people. Didn't I? For the last hundred pages of this thread I warned all of you the direction this company was heading. Diablo 3 is next. I'm warning you now. If you aren't prepared to pay to win, you're going to be left behind.

I highly doubt Blizzard will turn down that path.
I mean sure, they make a lot of money (and find ways to make even more money, that's what all companies do), but I've never felt cheated by Blizzard in any of their games. You know you get what you pay for, and they always support their games, even if they're 10+ years old.
I also love the fact that they don't release their games too early, which seems to be the standard in the gaming industry nowadays (Heroes of Might and Magic 6 + Warhammer: Space Marine anyone?).

Yeah, Blizzard is nothing if not consistent. They never release too early and never release anything with game-breaking bugs. I know people who work for Blizzard and I can tell you that it's a great company to work for, along with their consistent quality in the output of games. That doesn't mean everyone will like their games, but their games are solid.

Yes, but WoW was enjoyable for several years. Saying an entire company is going off the rails because ONE of their games (that has been going strong for nearly 10 years and is the largest grossing MMO of all time) is starting to fade out doesn't really help the argument. WoW is trying to appeal to a different market now, mainly the very young market. Only the most fanatic supporters of WoW who are over 12 years old still play. You can't say a company is going to shit because their game which has dominated all other games for the last ten years is starting to suck. All they're doing is adding pandas to the game. The fact of the matter is, everyone's sick of WoW because we've all played the shit out of it or we never played it because we weren't interested in MMOs. But WoW is still one of the biggest games in the history of gaming and Blizzard is a multi-billion dollar company because of it.

Blizzard has Diablo 3 coming out in May, which is just going to make them that much richer. Yet, they have yet to put out a bad game. They're not buggy, they're not unfinished, they're not boring, and they're not developed badly. You never have to worry about upgrading your PC with Blizzard...they always get their products as near to perfect as possible.

All that said, Diablo 3 is the only game from Blizzard that I really give a shit about.

Also, all this Bioware hate should actually be directed more towards EA.

Once I get awesome DSL Internet, want to do a Money Match?

ft5. loser pays up $50 via paypal.

I would say "sure", except that it's not even stable on cable right now. Not only does it have some wannabe GGPO (not quite the same), but it's like it does rollbacks before you even finish your inputs and so it throws everything off. I've tried a few dozen matches online during the week and weekend and it's always the same. It doesn't help that you can't play with the sound on either thanks to it cutting out every five seconds. As terrible as the netcode was for MvC3, it's about as good as playing offline in comparison to SFxT. I don't have it for the PS3 yet though, so *maybe* it would be different on the free network...

In case anyone cares, here's a Gamespot article with replies from various gaming site editors about Bioware's pandering to generation entitlement (which is bullshit):

Here's my favorites of the bunch though:

Mass Effect 3's problems are larger than its ending. Slapping a happier-colored bow on the package doesn't fix any of that.

The ending of my lunch wasn't what I wanted, I'm going to complain to the guys at the deli and get them to change it.

There's no spoilers unless you watch the videos, so you can actually read everything even if you haven't finished yet. Not that you should bother until you've completed it at least once though.

Heh, it's exactly two weeks earlier than I expected. Fuck. My time is going to be GONE when it arrives. How are Monks btw? I had a good friend who claimed that they were terrible when he played the beta in January. He said that they probably wouldn't change enough about the class for them to be any fun, but I can't really believe that at all. They looked like one of the two funnest by far.

The thing about D3 is that people are comparing the classes there as if they were MMOs, due to there always being "that one class" that's just useless and needing buffs or nerfing other classes just to make it more even with the suck. Diablo has never really been about character advancement in the sense it is in an MMO or RPG. You just wanna level up so you can get more powerful and unlock different abilities so you can just obliterate everything in your path. Therefore, imho, anyone complaining about class advancement and character building this early is just bitching. Every class is fun, trust me. D3 wasn't developed to be like Mass Effect or KOTOR, where there's a big, deep story and you can really get into roleplaying. No. The story is the exact same it's always been: Diablo's back in yet another incarnation and you have to slay all his minions to get to him, while picking up loot along the way. That's it and that's all it should be.

Also, you can only play each class for a few hours in beta, or at least until you finish the first dungeon (a good 4-5 hours or so...not bad); then you have to go back and start all over again if you wanna try a new character. I'm completely dumbstruck how anyone could say a particular class "sucks" when you can't get past the first few levels in beta.

Talkingbackwards, you know me. You know I don't like following the herd of neither naysayer nor apologist. I make my own opinions about games and have no problem having fun where others are bitching. Therefore, when I say D3 is a blast if you like Diablo, then it's a blast. You must, however, keep in mind that it's DIABLO; they're not trying to re-invent the wheel. When I played the beta, I was like a monkey fucking a football; drool was coming down the side of my mouth, body odor perforating the room due to not leaving the PC, and regular shouts of, "HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!"

To me, it will be GOTY alongside Skyrim. It picks up exactly where D2 left off in terms of gameplay, but with much needed graphical improvements (but without losing that Diablo "feel") and a few new leveling mechanics that I really enjoy. Like I said a few months ago, gone is the, "Ok, you need to get to 50 ASAP...GO!!!!" There are ability unlocks with every few levels, such as being able to wield multiple spells/abilities in your spell/ability bar. You have to earn that by leveling up. Sure, it's a small, seemingly insignificant thing, but it adds a little something to work towards. Honestly, the few hours I've played the beta have made me hungry for this game. Don't spoil it by over-analyzing it or listening to people bitch about it. Make your own judgement because I think you'll love it if you like Diablo.

Maybe this will set the record straight: when I played D3 for the first time in beta, I felt like a teenager playing Diablo all over again. It's just FUN. If you remember that feeling the first time you played Diablo and loved it, then you won't be let down.

Yeah, he even said that the classes were level locked and that you could only play for a couple of hours with each. That's one reason I kind of dismissed his opinion since it just seemed entirely premature. Who knows what the class would be like much later on, especially with gear? No one who has only been able to play for a couple of hours and expected to be "god mode" from the start.

I never wanted anything more than Diablo 2 redux, so I'm not expecting it to play like some brand new genre. Also, as soon as it comes out I'm going to play my initial character until I get bored, just to get used to the lay of the land and then play hardcore ladder and pray Battle.net doesn't blow for it like it did in the first four or five months when Diablo 2 was released.

Don't spoil it by over-analyzing it or listening to people bitch about it. Make your own judgement because I think you'll love it if you like Diablo.

This is one of the few big games where I've actually been ignoring 99.99% of everything that's out there about it other than release date watching and class updates. It would take a massive wrench to completely screw it up. Even though it's not even being worked on by anyone from the original Blizzard North team, if there's one thing Blizzard is great at, it's copying someone else's work and making it better.
