Manchester is slowly becoming like New York in terms of gangland. Gangsters are now having more of an influence in the way things are run and a lot of which have control on the doors of Manchester's nightspots.
Since the early 80's Manchester has had a gang culture. The gangs in Mosside and of the overspill Cheetham Hill estates began dealing drugs, robberies, extortion e.t.c. All these gangs soon became rivals and the Cheetham Hill gangs soon began taxing the Pepperhill Gang(East Alexandra Park Estate, Mosside).
Although recently, more gangs have emerged, such as Asian gangsters from Longsight who have become rivals with the other gang and if the stories are true that Asians will take over the drug scene then the Longsight Crew, Longsight Soldiers and Young Longight Boys will be playing a serious role in Manchester's underworld.. New gangs from Salford are using a more intelligent approach and controlling more businesses. When members of the Gooch Close Gang (West Alexandra Park Estate) opened fire in a pub in Salford on 2 seperate occasions they were all killed.
I've recently been for a walk around gangland Salford and looked at those 2 pubs which have both been closed down.
