I used a modded Vox wah. Its basically just a mod that takes some treble away from the toe-down position (I think thats what the mod is anyway!) but I agree, I love that wah tone. I still use it.

i'd like to present my new all-custom glam "Ibanez"
rg1570 body, custom made ribbed maple neck (almost like wizard II neck, except it's a bit thicker at the first 5-6 frets), 2x dimarzio tone zones, split switch, floyd rose
i'm most satisfied as i can get practically everything i need with her... and that especially goes for clean. even on the most shitty home amps it has a beautiful clean. drive can be massive enough for things i'm playing (some kind of power/prog mostly), and lead is nice soft and warm (depends on the amp, ofcourse). i use dunlop 09-42 in Eb and i get a great semi-loose feeling under my fingers
anyway, just wanted to share

Has anyone ever noticed any tone improvements when not having the tone knob in the circuit?
I've recently removed the little sucker from my main axe since it was always at 10, but haven't tested it at higher levels yet.

I would re-wire a disconnected tone knob as a spin-a-split knob (google it) for fluent coil-splitting.

That could do the trick, but I did lots of tests last Friday, and long story short, positions 2 and 4 sound great and very useful for clean tones with a DiMarzio True Velvet in the middle. Unlike what I would expect, 2 split humbuckers working together sounded very thin.

There is definitely a difference between having more wires, ie a tone control, compared to just the pickup straight to the output jack. Check out some clips with Guthrie Govan demonstrating his signature Suhr with the blower switch. Its not an earth-shattering difference but its there.
