glam metal

This whole "what is metal and what isn't metal" argument hurts my brain. It has been argued before on this board (nu-metal vs true metal argument).

I agree with Xenophobe that bands like Motley Crue, back in the day, were definitely classified as metal.

My current tastes are aimed towards blac/death/thrash, but I quite like a bit of Def Leppard/Poison/Crue from time to time. Why not? I grew up on it, and am not ashamed of listening to it.

And everyone going "it's not metal" because it doesn't fit in with their idea of what metal should be (ie, only bands they like and semi-like) should really think a little more open mindedly.

Anyway, Glam-Metal provides me with my dose of cheeeeeeeese! that i need every so often. It may be poppy, but at least they play their instruments (although we can discard warrant from the equation because of this ;))

Metal!

As I said I usually don't classify stuff like Guns N' Roses as metal. It kind of has to be as hard as Iron Maiden to become metal as they (and other bands) were kind of the first and original metal form. But on the other hand, the first record by the 3rd and the Mortal is gothic metal and it's not as hard as Iron Maiden at all. It's much more calm and "wuzzy" than Iron Maiden, but it still goes under the metal banner, so maybe npearce is right that this discussion is kind of stupid and has gotten a little out of hand discussing what is metal and what isn't. It's all music, so I don't care what genre it is, as long as it delights people out there.

I don't care what title that people want to put on music as long as it is good and entertaining.

Personally, I never found anything interesting about bands like Poison. But, I will admit that I do like the early Motley Crue.

Early Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Scorpions, etc... were great. It's just much of their image which is really lame... But to say it isn't metal is just kind of rediculous, cause in the VERY early 80's, that's what typical metal WAS.

Everithing you want to know about glam rock, appears on the film "The Decline Of Western Civilization II" I saw it yesterday and appears a lot of band, like W.A.S.P, Odin, Megadeth, etc. It's really funny!

PS: I'm not saying that Megadeth is Glame Rock, but they appeared on the film...

That films kicks arse, especially Chris Holmes, drunk in the pool with his mother

Yeah, that movie is great. I like when they are interviewing all those guys and they've got their hair all sprayed sky high and they got all this make-up on and they're all like "Yeah I'm Gonna Make It, I'm gonna be a Rock Star" and none of them ever really did. Megadeth is the only band that didn't really fit in in that movie because they weren't glam and their fans were completely different. They should've done a movie on Thrash metal.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but there's a band with Mikael Akerfeldt and Dan Swano (i think) called Steel, they made some mock glam metal songs.

They are really fucking funny:lol:. Check out the song 'Say Goodbye to Love', the vocals are hilarious.

glam rock is shit! These are men trying to be hardcore, dressing like women. Thats Cool!! Marilyn Manson is one of them. what a fucker. Twisted Sister is horribel. Hair bands/glam rock are love songs about the dumbest shit, just to get girls in their pants. They are doing it the shittiest way possible

I WANNA ROCK!!! I WANT TO ROCK!!!
I remember that Twisted Sister song! It kicked ass though it was kind of horrible as you say. "Were not gonna take it" were also fun and the video had lots of bad acting too!
Does anybody remember Pretty Boy Floyd? I only remember them vaguely, but I can remember I saw a song by them in that MTV show (here in Europe) called "The Coca Cola report" with Kristiana Backer and I thought it was pretty good, but that was also many, many years ago, so I would probably think differently now. If you didn't know Ugly Kid Joe is a parody of the name Pretty Boy Floyd!
