GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1983

nobody on this board is talking about melodeath-era at the gates when they talk about their greatness tho?

I thought SOTS was considered the 'most foundational' album for melodeath, but maybe i'm wrong.

Does RMS not like death metal? I noticed he didn't vote on the 1992 thread which was a death metal year.

eh, I enjoy but I guess it's my least favorite out of the 5. wouldn't really consider that year above average in terms of death metal, IMO Golgotha is the only album really worth it off memory

Manilla Road - Crystal Logic
Slayer - Show No Mercy
Metallica - Kill Em All
Jaguar - Power Games
Satan - Court in the Act
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Witchfinder General - Friends of Hell
Jag Panzer - Jag Panzer (EP)
Sortilège - Sortilège
Heavy Load - Stronger Than Evil

I think I'll have to skip this round. I only own three albums which were released in 1983 and those are the only ones I'm familiar with (if you can still be familiar with albums which you haven't listened to for about two decades or even more), whereas the minimum amount of releases to be included in one's list is five - or has this requirement been dropped?

i never actually put that rule in an OP so idk if itd be fair to apply it, i guess i will next time though if the majority wants. i can hardly imagine how hard tech barb's conspiracy theories would rage if i rejected his list when he hasn't broken an explicit rule.

shakin' brains should appeal to people who like malmsteen and 70s shit like rainbow and deep purple.

Curious how many points tech barb's picks will get

Sorry, but lists of 1 and 2 are bullshit ways to rig the poll in favor of one's favorites. They shouldn't be counted. Or if they are, they should only be worth 1-2 points. A minum of 5 is more than generous (honestly, everyone should list 10). And if you honestly can't find 5 albums (especially since EPs and demos count), you really have no business contributing.

i'm not sure people should be forced to list albums they don't really like just to make it up to ten. and if they do like them but have decided not to list them for tactical reasons, ultimately they're just lessening their own influence over results by using less of their available points. i'm not sure it's such a big deal, in other words, but if everyone else does then i'll apply it going forward. i still don't really want to apply it to a thread where i haven't specified the rule though.

It's fine. Until you post a legit list, I've droped Slayer and Metallica off my list to negate your vote. I don't even care if they win, as I like both albums, but they should win legitimately.

I get your reasoning for not applying it to this one, but it should be added as a rule for the next one. The point about him weakening his score is inaccurate because he's inflating albums that he is a fanboy of and intentionally leaving albums off that would have made his authentic top 10. For example, he said in a previous post that he would leave Crystal Logic off his list so that it wouldn't surpass SNM or KEA. Obviously, there's nothing you can do about that. It just sucks that someone has to turn it into a tatical game. But I'm cool with fighting fire with fire.

has TB ever professed a liking for CRYSTAL LOGIC though? given his tastes i wouldn't be surprised if those genuinely were the only two albums he likes from this year (aside from mamas boys obviously)
