GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1991

I guess I need to listen to 1916 a couple more times.

By my count I own 17 Motörhead albums, including that one and I had it very low toward the bottom.

1. Massacre `From Beyond.
2. Cannibal Corpse `Butchered at Birth.
3. Grave `Into The Grave
4. Unleashed `Where no life Dwells.
5. Cancer `Death Shall Rise.
6. Convulse `World Without God.
7. Funebre `Children of the Scorn.
8. Entombed `Clandestine.
9. Pestilence `Testimony of the Ancients.
10. Asphyx `The Rack.

1916 is the least favorite Motorhead album I own, and haven't really been able to pin down why. It's still better than their "bad" albums, it's sort of the worst of their best material.

1 - Carcass - Necroticism Descanting The Insalubrious
2 - Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments
3 - Bolt Thrower - War Master
4 - Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick
5 - Pungent Stench - Been Caught Buttering
6 - Suffocation - Human Waste EP
7 - Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream
8 - Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
9 - Immolation - Dawn of Possession
10 - Autopsy - Mental Funeral

DEATH METAL OR BUST

1916 has some quality songs on it, including one of my all-time faves, No Voice In The Sky. I can't decide if March Or Die or Snake Bite Love is my least fave Motorhead album.

yeah, there's probably a couple of these that wouldn't make the cut for me now, but l had to go with what ruled my world back then...
and those were it.

Kind of the same mindset here. I remember I had Idolatry on cassette, and I remember the first time I heard it.......I wanted to peel back my scalp and let my brains explode on the ceiling, it was that good. Still feel the same about the album and the memories that surround it. Its hard not to start pacing when I listen to it.

Heavy metal, as was known, would shatter this year, and people had to make a choice. With Nirvana's Nevermind album breaking this year, and basically throwing Grunge into the mainstream the year after, people could choose to throw on some flannel and become addicted to Prozac, or they could just fully devote their souls to Satan and side with the underground scenes of death/black metal. For those who took the latter, a real treat was in store, for it saw some of the very greatest works metal has ever achieved. Either way, the fun-filled 80s were over!

1.
Carcass - Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious
2. Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients
3. Sepultura - Arise
