GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1993

That's what I've found. Symbolic is almost universally acclaimed whilst ITB is more of a love it or hate it type of album. I just don't get it.

Symbolic seems to have the broadest appeal, but it also gets used as a punching-bag for being too streamlined or wimpy or whatever. It's got the greatest hooks imo, but Leprosy is by a large margin my favorite overall. Not really a Death megafan in any case.

Symbolic is loved by most, it's just that this forum has a bunch of Death haters who love to shit on most of their work. Divisive my ass, it's their highest rated album almost anywhere you look. The in-crowd not enjoying something doesn't make it divisive.

Yeah Symbolic is certainly their most friendly sounding release production wise. Fucking amazing album though. Personally I always considered ITP to be Death at their most creative and abstract. Symbolic, for me, lacks a lot of the weirdness that I commonly enjoy about Chuck's music.

im pretty sure Phyl will find a way to shoehorn some negative comment for Rust in Peace in there. And then proceed to refer to one of the most beloved metal albums of all time as divisive because a couple foogazis here dont enjoy it.

TSoP at least is divisive, that's one of the most argued about metal albums i can think of (and not just here)

pretty sure RiP and hammerheart will be top 2 for '90

it's stickied but also very out of date lol

i was going from 1980-2009 and then people said they wanted 2010-2014 included as well, so w/e, your choice

I doubt there are enough albums to make 1980 worth it, but yeah I guess make that the starting year for RNG.

The in-crowd's dismissal of Painkiller is possibly their greatest sin.

Doesn't Ozz also dislike that album?

Now all we have to do is wait another month for phyl to finish up with the results for this year.

lol

6) The Somberlain by Dissection
I am the great shadow, no daylight over my kingdom ride...

"I actually prefer The Somberlain to Storm. Both are great but for some reason, The Somberlain strikes a better chord with me." - @Psychonaut

"There isn't a single black metal album i would give 5 stars out outside of The Somberlain."- @TechnicalBarbarity

"Somberlain blows it out of the water...(in my opinion)
I find that Somberlain utilizes the techniques that make their style, well, 'their style'.... more than that on 'Storm...'

Night's Blood is fantastic, though... "- Manes

""Black Horzions" and "The Somberlain" are two of the best opening tracks to an album ever. So fucking good. Superior to "Storm of the Light's Bane" in pretty much every regard." - @Phylactery

"I like SOTLB. I like it even better than The Somberlain, actually. But the cool thing to say is that The Somberlain is better. I can understand why people would take that view, but I can't see any credible argument for thinking that SOTLB isn't at least a good album." - @Cythraul
