GMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 2009

Illusions, Eternal Nightmare, Violent Restitution, etc are all better albums than Irae Melonox. Has nothing to do with them being classics and sure in the hell has nothing to do with anything "mainstream".

tbh i don't even care if they're considered classics. But do take into consideration there is a reason most of those albums have earned that title. The three albums i mentioned are all godly pieces of thrash metal, which sure in the hell has nothing to do with popularity.

I can't speak to Irae Melonox as I haven't heard it in full yet, but your implication is that musical quality is objective and we all know that is an endless rabbit-hole of a debate.

What I am saying is, what is the point of even playing these games which rely on the choices of unique individual users on the site if all you want to see is what you consider to be the obvious, objective list of albums that would win if we put the vote to the entire global metal community?

That's why I mention Mojo etc. If I want to see a list of obvious, safe choices I'll just go read a damn rag.

(Better yet, why don't we just copy and paste the top 10 from the RYM's lists for each year, since I think they order it by highest ratings to lowest ratings? That will be super fun.)

so those three albums i mentioned fall under "safe choices"? And tbh i cant give any less of a shit what you(or anyone else) would consider to be "safe choices". I dont include or exclude albums because of poseurish reasons as such. If i think it slays and is one of the best from that year, then it is going to be included. I dont give a shit if its on the cover of every metal magazine and everyone and their mothers listen to it ... kind of like Illusions and Violent Restitution, right? And you fail to see why i consider you to be a gigantic poser?

The Blueprint To a GMD Polls: Top Ten Album of XXXX: A Beginner's Guide

Page 1:
  • no country links the RYM lists for albums and says a little tidbit about the year (usually trying to pre-emptively deflect complaints such as "this year may not be everyone's favorite" or the casual filler "this year is interesting"
  • HamburgerBoy instantly posts his list from his accrued collection of spreadsheets with rankings stemming from his life-long battle with autism.
  • TB also posts his list as he has memorized every thrash album in existence, in addition to CIG posting his list as well
  • Depending on the year, The Ozzman and Baroque will complain that this year is garbage, HOWEVER, if they like the year, then there is a high likelihood that crimsonfloyd will tout the year as inferior.
Page 2:
  • Enter the following 2 pages with caution. TB and CIG have undoubtedly began a flamewar. Recommended to wait until Deron cleans up the thread after 3-4 days.
Page 4:
  • Lists have begun trickling in, and a pattern is beginning to show. There is going to be many classics, but there will be ONE album which will either be #1 on people's lists or will be completely non-existent. For more information regarding this album, it can be found as Vegard's #1 album. NOTE: It will definitely not be on TB's list.
Page 5:
  • HamburgerBoy discovers that a popular album was in fact released the succeeding year. Many lists now have to be edited.
Page 8:
  • This page will be dead for roughly 1-2 weeks. Come back when no country is just about to announce the results
Page 8 (continued):
  • RedIntheSky along with 3 other people squeeze their list in 5 minutes before no country announces #10. These last lists will change a ranking, so don't bother trying to do a preliminary count.
Page 11:
  • The final 10 have been announced and an unsettling feeling begins growing in the pits of your stomach. You realize that your list is clearly superior to the final 10 and wonder how the fuck Runemagick didn't even make 10th place.
Page 12:
  • TB calls CIG a poser.

Funny how you say this, then utterly fail to understand that people also do this and that is why the lists aren't conforming to your infantile wishes.

well at least im not the one trying to be some pretentious "unorthodox" doucher by leaving 5 star landmark albums out just because they're considered classics/popular or whatever other "nonconformist" poser viewpoints you might have.

Hey no country, I recall you mention earlier that you're only doing the years from 1980 to 2009. Why not include 2010-2015 as well? I'm sure some people enjoy doing the 2000s years, I know I do because they're less predictable and have the most stuff I haven't heard.
