Ha yeah, I raised that because I wasn't sure whether to include that Proyas movie in my list. I remember reading Krow's list but somehow overlooked your post above.

Damn right. As someone who's not a big fan of action movies as a genre, this is one of my favorites because it's so much more than just an action movie. The concept, setting and cinematography all come together to create a weird primal magic. The action is superb, but what stands out just as much to me is how the subtle pacing lets you really soak in the beauty of everything around the action.

Having a whole cast of the most macho dudes imaginable slowly fall apart psychologically is one of my favourite things about it.
