i doubt i'll get around to it but it's john hillcoat's debut, i didn't even know he was making movies back in the '80s. an aussie prison drama which, much like the proposition, has a soundtrack and screenplay by nick cave.

Soft deadline is up, tagging some people who might want to get in on this:

@Funerary_Doom @RadicalThrasher @Sirjack @Talos of Atmora @Krow @zabu of nΩd @Serjeant Grumbles @Carpe Mortem @Atomic Tide @-CyanideChrist- @Slayed Necros @Satanstoenail @Master_Yoda77 @alex76 @zerostatic @EspaDa @Mort Divine @I-TEND-TO-DIE @RedinTheSky @EternalMetal @Draehl @Baroque @Terasophe @Dazed and Brutal @Manic Ferocity @dorian gray

I know many of you people I tagged either won't have enough films to do this or just simply don't give a shit enough to bother, but you can't blame a girl for trying. :saint:

The hard deadline is DECEMBER 16th (so you have a month to finalize your list).

i'll probably post mine tomorrow.

if nobody else says they're planning to post a list will you close it much sooner than the hard deadline?

Probably not because I plan to rewatch Bloodsport and I'm waiting on Dead Ringers which is currently in the mail. Also, I just saw on FB that Cinema Cult are re-releasing Serpent and the Rainbow so I'll hopefully buy that this month.

So in the end a lot is being held up by me, so don't worry man take your time.

i just didn’t want to be waiting around ages for no reason, as long as people still wanna watch stuff it’s cool. i could watch a few more myself.

If I get no responses in here confirming lists to come and I'm finished watching everything I want to watch, I might just end it before the deadline. Really depends on others.

Also maybe @MetalAges since you seem to like a bunch of movies.

Oh man I hate these it makes me think too much!

My rough list - in order - and only ones deserving of being on a "list" for me (as far as which ones I've actually seen from '88).

Bloodsport
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka
They Live
Rambo III
Beetlejuice
Willow
Young Guns
Pumpkinhead
Hellraiser II

Strangely not much horror for me that year - too many sequels.

I never watched Monkey Shines but I grew up with a Macintosh game by that same name, and one time I saw the movie at our local rental place. I asked my dad to get it since I thought the game was based on the movie but he took a look at the case and said "I don't think so". :(

Monkey Shines is quite good. The premise is undoubtedly a bit absurd but it just works. Romero didn't look back on that period of his career with the fondest of memories as it was his first big studio film and they compromised a lot of it but it's still a solid horror movie. The actual monkey is great. Must have had a brilliant trainer.
