Is Easter Everywhere better than The Psychedelic Sounds...?

I really didn't like the latter, sloppy garage rock, nothing psychedelic about it.

It's psychedelic, but just not the entry-level psychedelia of The Beatles et al. Not sure how you could listen to, say, "Slip Inside this House" and say it's just sloppy garage rock.

No I was referring to the debut, I've never heard Easter Everywhere, but I guess I should check it out.

Not sure what you mean by entry-level psychedelia though. The jug playing of 13th Floor Elevators struck me as a rather superficial gloss on pretty basic garage/folk rock (at least on the debut). I would much more readily use the term psychedelic for albums like Forever Changes or The Electric Prunes or Surrealistic Pillow.

The jug isn't even what makes them psychedelic for me, it's more about the general fried vibe of everything. The first album is just a garage rock album that relies heavily on LSD, but the second is the one that takes it in that direction.

I think they're one of those get it or you don't bands though.

Fair enough - though you'd probably struggle to find an album from 1967 that didnt have a fried vibe!

Eh, most psychedelia from 1967 is more along the lines of happy poppy vibes. By fried I guess I mean a much more cynical form of psychedelia a la Mad River.

As to the other point, I'm happy with continuing to host these for the time being. If I ever do tire of it, I think you should know that I already have the randomized order for all future rounds worked out, which could save the effort on your part.

I'm really bummed that no one has Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You" listed. It's a one of the great soul records of the 60s. And way too few of you have Jimi Hendrix's "Axis: Bold as Love" listed. Start to finish, it's stronger than "Are You Experienced?" (although both will be on my list).

Really good album but personally not even my favourite of hers from 1967. If it had been the year prior or the year after an Aretha Franklin album would most likely make my list. Lady Soul or Aretha Now from 1968 or Soul '69 from 1969 for example. This Girl's in Love with You and Spirit in the Dark are definitely a lock for a 1970 list.

I always thought Axis was a rather lightweight Hendrix album.
