GNMD Poll: Top Ten Albums of 1984

#4 Dead Can Dance - Dead Can Dance
dead_can_dance.jpg
Genre(s):
Ethereal Wave, Darkwave, Gothic Rock

yeah Dead Can Dance- self titled album is my favorite, i think the production on it adds to the atmosphere, all their albums are great, amazing and well accomplished musicians, very creative and dynamic, definitely buy some of their stuff, its worth the money for sure
Dead Can Dance is gay
Plebs like yourself shouldn't even be listening to high art like Dead Can Dance and Burzum. It's not made for people of your ilk.
Does Dead Can Dance mean that "the dead can dance" or is it can as in jar?

#3 Prince and the Revolution - Purple Rain

Genre(s):
Pop Rock, Film Soundtrack, Synth Funk

Dance-Pop, Funk Rock

Not entirely my kind of music but no doubt the guy is talented and creative. However I saw an interview with his father once, along time ago who I believe was a jazz pianist who claimed Prince was using portions of his progressions. The thing I liked most was his stage presence, he has charisma.
I'm listening to Purple Rain (album) as we speak.

Fuck Michael Jackson being the King of Pop. He NEVER has been. It always was, and always will be, Prince.
I much prefer his funkier material.

#2 Rush - Grace Under Pressure

Genre(s):
Progressive Rock

New Wave, Pop Rock

Grace Under Pressure is my favorite Rush album because of its degree of consistency.
Push comes to shove, I would give the same answer. Peart perfectly merges the philosophical and personal dimensions of his writing. The songs are catchy, yet are full of depth and texture.

#1 Cocteau Twins - Treasure

Genre(s):
Dream Pop, Ethereal Wave

Been wandering around outside while listening to the Cocteau Twins. Such an aesthetically perfect experience.
There was like a solid year of college where I listened to Dream Pop and shoegaze exclusively. However, Cocteau Twins can really be seen as a singular great in the scene overall
I've been listening a lot to Cocteau Twins since yesterday, a totally new discovery for me and I love it. I'm surprised so many people like them on UM though, it's pretty cheesy.
Listening to this Cocteau Twins cd I just got from Amazon. It's blowing me away so far.
what happens when Scottish yodelers try to make a gothic album. I haven't heard soo much experimental failure since the arcade fire's laugh of an album - funeral.
