#6 Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction
(22 Points)

Genre(s):
Hard Rock

Glam Metal

Guns N' Roses is music for people who are one step away from having good taste.
Guns n Roses are horrible.
Except they put out one of the best hard rock albums of all time in Appetite for Destruction.
That album has its moments, but overall....shitty, over rated band IMO.
I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I actually don't find them to be completely abhorrent. They're just okay.
guns n roses rule you noob
I still think Guns n' Roses are one of the best bands in the world.
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction

Without this, I wouldn't even like music in general.
...although I rarely listen to it anymore. I heard it for the first time in middle school and thought it was the most hardcore thing I'd ever heard.

I mean, when a sixth grader hears these lyrics:

"Ya get nothin' for nothin'
If that's what ya do
Turn around bitch I got a use for you
Besides you ain't got nothin' better to do
And I'm bored"

His jaw kinda drops open.

I hate Axl Rose though. That guy's a fucking tool.
Appetite for Destruction was the only GnR release I thoroughly enjoyed.

#2 Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
(40 Points)

dcd.jpg
Genre(s):
Neoclassical Darkwave

Within the Realm of the Dying Sun explores some the fundamental tensions of existence: light and dark, knowledge and ignorance, life and death, being and nothingness. It's explored immanently on Side A with Brendan Perry's lyrics and then transcendentally on Side B with Lisa Gerrard wordless chants. Of course, each contains elements of the other, but different dimensions of the tension are emphasized on each side. The compositions are stellar with excellent and creative development and excellent arrangements. And obviously, we're talking about two world class singers in fine form.
I love Dead Can Dance. My favorite songs include Summoning Of The Muse, The Host Of Seraphim, The Carnival Is Over, Xavier, Rakim, and Cantara. Seriously, such an incredible band. I wish I had a chance to see them live.

#1 Swans - Children of God
(43 Points)

Genre(s):
Experimental Rock, Post-Punk, Gothic Rock

Industrial Rock, Noise Rock, Neofolk, No Wave

We must share some blood or something on your Irish side.

Hehe. I honestly cant pick a favorite Swans album because I like them all. I love the industrial Cop/Young God/Greed period, as much as the later melodic and haunting WHite Light and Great Annhilator period.

But Children of God I suppose has to be my favorite. What an album!
Swans is the second band in my name they taught me their was good extreme music outside of metal. They are considered the heaviest band of all time and their most brutal album is Public castration is a good Idea. Personally though I would suggest starting off with Filth and then trying out Cop as they are more accessible. The band eventually strayed away from the industrial noise they are known for and began experimenting. An example of their good experimental side is the Album Children of god with monster tracks like Beautifil child and Like a drug (Sha la la). Do note that Swans is not for everyone so don't be surprised if you hate it. Just make sure you give each album a chance since they change a lot.
Not necessarily metal but Swans "Children of God" is pretty awesome industrial/post-rock.
