Got Twilight in Olympus today

Yeah, he is...I like the sound of Rullo's drumkit the best, but yeah, Walling does well.

So since you seem to like long songs (judging from your comment), did you like "Through the Looking Glass"?

I don't hear much of a DT similarity at all with Symphony X in most cases. Sure, occasionally there's a similar riff here and there, but I don't think that constitutes DT-worship.

Alright fair enough, Comparing Dream Theatre and Symphony X is ALOT better than comparring Symphony X and Iron Maiden! However, just because an occasional riff pops up every so often that sounds familiar doesn't mean anyone is ripping off of anyone! You know most guitar skills are always done the same, to make a certain sound or certain this and that, its all done the same way! Possibly gone about slightly differ but you get the point! But Is till say this, you shouldn't compare Dream Theatre, meer knights, to Gods!

it's an awesome album, My favorites are:

1.- Through the looking glass (nothing to do with DT, but with lewis carroll's story I think)

2.- Church of the machine

3.- and my favorite of all, one of the most beautiful prog metal ballads (and under rated may I add): Lady of the Snow :worship:

I'm pretty sure that Twilight is my favorite album. At least at the moment is. The vocals on Twilight, the guitars on Dragon's Den, the lyrics for the Relic and TTLG, and everything about Smoke and Mirrors. The whole damn album is full of amazing songs. Then again, I guess you can say that about any SX album.

OK, the reason why there are the DT vs. SX comparisons is because both are at the top of the technical prog arena. All the members are super talented and no one can take that from either band. They also like to exist in various amounts of indulgence.

Their music couldn't be more different from one another, however.

As far as Tom Walling, he's definitely good, but I'm still looking to listen more and see, but my current evaluation is that he's not as "natural" with his playing as Jason. He's not as integrated into the music and some stuff sounds a bit contrived in a way. He's still good, however and I do wish him luck. A band finding someone like Tom after Jason is a tough call. I'm finding much of Jason's playing in SX is not his technical ability, but how well integrated his playing/writing is with the rest of the music.

Agree, maybe not for that style of music but I still think his playing is brilliant. It's only a very small thing but I really loved his double kick rolls in the last chorus on Through the Looking Glass and I was hoping Jason would do them on the live album... but he doesn't. :P
