Harlequin Forest

Fantastic track, it goes through a variety of really interesting moods, the first few minutes are so upbeat for Opeth, but it has some fairly evil vocals/riffs in the later parts, great outro as well. I wouldn't say it's one of their best songs, but like all of them its a great song non the less.

I'm surprised so many people like this as much as they do. It's a pretty average song; I kind of put it on the level that Masters Apprentices is on. And if I were going to play a song that represented Opeth it definitely wouldn't be this one. I don't think it represents their style in the slightest.

I think it's safe to say everything but the first 3 on GR is overrated.

I feel like the story in the lyrics matches the mood in the music, fairly common for Opeth. But this song is one of their foremost examples of it. It adds a completely new dimension to the music... I used to not even try to figure out what the lyrics said in Opeth songs because the music was just so good, but When I finally got around to it makes me appreciate all of the genius that goes into the music...

I find Masters Apprentices to be awesome, and I love the entirety of GR.

What parts of Opeth do you feel aren't included in HF?

Instruments of death before me....
This one is my favorite opeth composition... so nice and brutal at the same time, everything is in perfect harmony...:notworthy
The outro groove is .... (oh this word doesn´t exist, its too groovy and crushing to verbalize....)

Could not have said it better. And is anyone wants to get their friends into Opeth then I feel this is the song to do it with. Great vocals and then MA starts growling....holy shnikies it just makes the song perfect.

Yes, it's disjointed but I still like it quite a bit. I am very fond of the acoustic bridge, with the "They are.. the trees" part, which is the most beautiful acoustic part since the chorus of 'Face of Melinda' !!

Is this guy a spambot? I read a bunch of his/her/its other posts and none of them make any more sense than this. I don't want to click the link in case it's a keylogger or something >:E

He is a very, very weird person that doesn't know the English language very well. Also, he is weird.

I like Harlequin Forest very much, it was the song that got me into the "hard" Opeth after Damnation,
the quiet part together with the part after gives me goosebumps, mikaels clean singing is astounding here :)

I clicked his link and it was some shady online business deal thing...

But yeah, HF is one of the best songs off Ghost Reveries. I love the part, "They are the trees rotten pulp inside and never well" as well as when Mikael growls "Instruments of death before me." as someone else mentioned.

And:
It's all false pretentions
Harlequin Fo-o-o-o-o-ooreeest
A-awai-aiting Rede-emtption for a Life Time
As they die alone, and no one by their side
Are they forgi-i-i-i-iiven

:goggly:

I love every verse of HF.
