Hehe....still unmarried here. 26.5 and still unhitched. I always told myself id never get married cuz i cant see myself married. Everyone tells me ill change my mind one day but i dunno...

Hehe, you're married faster to a finnish guy than you can count to 3, believe me, tal :loco:
But of course sos and i are NOT married, it's just a joke, maybe she gets the possibility to tell you :p

I stayed there before, might do it again in a 18 euro dorm room. However, the place, while the rooms have showers and stuff, has white walls, white floors....white sheets...it looks like an insane asylum.... I had to get out and drink after lying there staring at the walls for awhile....but it is clean and the dorm rooms have stoves and shit in them which is a help. but its usualy pretty well booked, but luckily most holiday ends near the end of August so the hostels tend to start opening up again.

Great to hear that! I'm bit suprised that you guys seem to like finnish people that much, at least some of the finns can be rather quiet and blunt, i think that's the main reason we drink so much :D
About this, Im not going to be as positive as the others. I mean, before I came to Finland I thought that it's fun that they only talk when they have to say smthing (ergo no small talk) but seriously folks...it can get UBER ANNOYING, believe me. If you just spend a holiday here, you won't notice, but if you stay for months or even more you'll realize that silence is not as fun anymore.
I don't even get how can a cheerful lass like Tal say that; you just LOVE to talk gal! What would happen to you if the only response you'd get is silent humming
But of course it depends on the person, not every finn is like this, but I assure you... most of them. Oh, not when they are drunk tho of course :p They can turn into TOTALLY different persons with a lil alcohol in their blood
Summa summarum: the avarage sober(!) finn can be a bit boring sometimes, the drunken finn on the other hand is ALWAYS a lot of fun :p

And btw this WHOLE description EXCLUDES my bf :p:p (because I was mainly talking about friends and acquantices)

@Zsuzsa: Hehe, yeah, I do like to talk, i admit! I can sit there and say nothing as well sumtimes, believe it or not! And when I said 'not blowing sunshine up your ass all day' i more meant like, in the US, if you are feelin' a little down or surly EVERYONE tries to get you to be bright and happy, here they let you do your thing or buy you booze, which in effect does help in the end. :D And its cool cuz a lot of my finnish friends are even sort of talkative when not drunk and stuff, so I've been ok. But yeah, ya know, whenever i nail myself the permit and a place to stay and end up here....i suppose the silence might get to me after a bit...then again, like i said, i can just go to a bar and talk my head off if i want ;)

Man, livin in the countryside with my friend a bit, I know all the good cheap ways to have fun at bars AND get tanked! A mere ten euros gets you a bottle of Koskenkorva, which when mixed with juice is actually not so bad. This bottle, after drinking a third of the strong stuff will get your head spinning if you drink without eating a lot(for me anyway but i do have that tolerance), then a couple pints later you'll be well on your way. :D That way, you get the fun of bars and dont have to spend much at all! Of course, like i said...i find i dont even ask and i get drinks placed in front of me at bars anyway....

Hmm...i crave a tuna sandwich and mustard....:D or excuse me, tonnikala voileipä ja sinappi....tho i prolly said that wrong

Damnit Tal, I get the wanderlust more and more while reading your posts! Dunno if it's possible to wait another 8 months or whatever to finally go to finland......

Man, if i gotta go home in Sept and come back in liek November or December or somehing with more cash, i am gonna cry i think. Its only 2 or 3 months sure but phillys hell nemore. But if worse case scenerio happens, i can get my residence permit easier in the states, live with a friend of the family for very little rent and just square away cash and go back for good...but i am hopin it wont come to that; if my luck holds and a good deed i might have done in a past life or sumthin gets paid back i'll get the permit and a job. But I hope you can get to Finland soon, Missery!!! More drunkenness needed...

Muahahahahahahah, guess that's teh right place for teh NUT to stay then!!!

I bet I would love it...a shame about the lost straitjackets....:loco:

I always wanted to go to school in one and tell the teachers I couldn't do my homework since I had been running around in them all week and would love to show them the doctors note saying that it is extremely necessary for me to wear them"...but hey, my hands are tied behind my back" :D

@Tal: as I said, the silent treatment will only hit you after a while ;) And in general; getting TOTALLY used to the finnish way of things usually takes time (1-2, or even 3 years). You also have to speak the language to fully understand their minds ;)

And I also will go home somewhere around octobre, november, but it's more like because I miss home ;) And when I come back I really will have to work somewhere. Anywhere.

Btw finally I got in touch with the hungarians who live in Finland, we'll have a grill party in Espoo tomorrow as well! That's very good, since they'll help me a lot with finding a job and just to escort me around on how things go here. Not to mention how great it is to hear some hungarian speech again :D

Thats cool, Zsuzsa! Tonight was more drinking at Ottopoiko, the main metal bar in Kuopio. I hung a bit with members of Cacodaemon, Trollheims Grott and Deathchain; all are cool and were psyched to find an american in Finland who loved the music. :D Me and my bud killed a bottle of vodka, some beer and lonkero, but I am still doing ok, the fact i havnt puked yet in finland is starting to make me wonder who the lucky person is going to be to actually drink me into sickness. (Hell, dude...if I didnt puke the first 3 nights i dont know what will make me go...trust me, i think i should have been technically dead then keeping up how i did... ;) :D ) But it was a good night and i barely spent money on booze, which is good! Tomorrow we'll be splitting a bottle of some vile stuff prolly thats cheap before hitting a bar for another pint and more free drinks. ;) Sundays chill day, Monday is laundry then I leave on a bus back to Helsinki at night and just sleep, getting back into town Tuesday morning where i will hopefully nail my cheap ass hostel room again for a bit unless i find somethin. Then, its crunch time....Wed I go attempt the residence permit....and of course, Wed nights at Corner are always good...

I got a little more cash comin so i should be ok the rest of the time. I'll be drinking cheap ass booze and tryin to find crash places(and a job i hope) but i aint fuckin givin up, i tell you that....have fun at the grill tomorrow, dude! Drink some cider for me :D

I shall do so (have fun and drink cider :D )!

About the free couch you were asking I couldn't figure out anything yet, because all of my friends are either living with their parents or already have a roommate ;/ But I'll tell you as soon as I find something!

And since this thread is already full of pictures, let's add some more to the crowd ;D

Ville (my bf) and me @ the already (in)famous Corner Bar ;p
