Hello there...
As i said in another thread, i was present for the gig at the NJ fest, and i was impressed by the performance of Novembers doom (i was right in front, the short kid to the left of the guy with the bright red suit). I've heard "Not the Strong", and i like it. If i am correct they have more than one album, and i was just wondering which album people would recommend... because i'd really like to check out more of the bands material

Well if you are looking for heavy songs like not the strong i would start with the cd that that song is off of which is called To Welcome the Fade if you dont have that one already. Then get The Knowing which is the album right before that one. Of Sculptured Ivy and Stone Flowers is a really good album to. Then there is Amid its Hallowed Mirth which is more old school doom/death metal totally different than what the band sounds like now.

Greetings, Larry here (guitarist for ND). I think I remember the guy with the bright red suit actually.....when you're onstage you really can't see much of the crowd due to the lights but something like a bright red suit stands out LOL Anyhow, glad you enjoyed the show. I would suggest that you pick up "TO WELCOME THE FADE" on cd if you enjoyed 'Not the Strong'. It's definitely our strongest cd so far and more representative of where we are at now. You can buy all of our cds at www.darksymphonies.com for very cheap ($10, free shipping!) or you can wait until we get our merchandise section up and running at www.novembersdoom.com where we will also have things like t-shirts, girlie tops, autographed items, etc.

Please let us know what you think of our cds if and when you get any! We'd like to know. Thanks again.

Alright, i guess i shall get To Welcome the Fade as soon as i get some cash (or perhaps wait till the holidays)
Thanks for all the recommendations... after hearing "Dark Fields for Brilliance" off of mp3.com, i am definitely getting this album

Larry: you know I love you! If I need to slip you some tongue at the next metalfest to prove that, SO BE IT!

i have a few things to say, its basicly a kissing ass post.
so i had the knowing and of stoned flower and sculptured ivy. i gave it away to my friend when i move toward more underground doom band. it had been like almost 2 years. and somehow i decided to listen to the albums on mp3 again. wow, it was amazing, like totally new music i've never heard, since my perspective in music was so different. there's some great element from this american band thats even european bands can learn from. anyway, i'm going to buy the cds back and keep them. i just wanna say thanks for your beautiful music, and being the band that introduce me to the doom metal genre.

My own introduction to the type of music people call "Doom Metal" was back in like '87 with a band called Candlemass from Scandinavia. Before that period, I cannot remember about bands playing slow and melancholic the whole time (who can anyway). It was regarded as a bit boring and my friends would quickly put a Slayer record on. Then came Paradise Lost with Lost Paradise. And of course Cathedral. This was something else...more agressive and brutal. Their second album Gothic (P.L.) really made the genre stand apart from other types of Death Metal. It was a natural reaction to other bands exploring the boundaries of fastness. :hypno:

Only later on I learned about Trouble, but by then I was suddenly more into Prong, Machine Head, Fear Factory, Pantera and you name them.. I still kept on following My Dying Bride, Anathema and Paradise Lost though...But (maybe except from Anathema) when their albums progressed they lost some of their charm. So did the genre with all those Gothic Bands with girl (opera)-singers :yell: like Within Temptation, Nightwish, and on and on and on. Basically soft/safely played - old school metal and terrible singing!! And not REAL!

But then....Novembers Doom!! Yeah, this was more like it! Modern sounding Doom-Metal played like it should be!

So I became a fan a year ago and I couldn't find another band in this genre since, that moved me the way N.D. did.. :Smug:

I like a band like for example Agalloch too (also from the U.S.) but it's totally different. Nowadays I'm on a "Scandinavian Trip" with bands like Opeth, Soilwork, In Flames, Mnemic, Darkane, Hatesphere, The Haunted, Katatonia, Rapture, Meshuggah and so on...Not Doom-Metal, but just fucking great. I can recommend them if you like honest Metal.

Well, by for now

Indeed a great band; Candlemess (as we used to call them). I've seen them once at the Wâldrock-fest near my hometown. A friend of mine even got a signature from one of their roadies, thinking he was the bassplayer. I guess that guy seriously considered wearing sunglasses for the rest of that day.

Oh shit, what a mess; one of my candles just fell down from the televisonset.
hell.
For the interested; my brother and his wife just became parents. It's a boy called "Thijs" and he was born on the 14th of december at 20.51 p.m.

Bye for now!! :tickled:
