Hey guys I recently got an engl 2x12v loaded with vintage 30s
to replace my VHT big bottom cab which has the eminence speakers.

Im using an esp viper into a ts-9 into my peavey 6505 using
moderate settings.

When im micing this up im getting this horrible mid tone
kinda dead sound.

Any ideas ? Ive tried everything but no matter where I place the mic
or change the amp settings it always sounds terrible like this.

any ideas guys ?

heres a clip of the sound im getting its totally dead and lifeless.
Im loosing sleep over this :zombie:

Have you put it in a mix yet?

Solo'd guitar tracks always sound lifeless and flat. High gain guitars seem to acquire much of their "dynamics" and "life" from the rest of the mix...

Think of it this way: a crushing guitar tone is based off of a crushing drum sound. Everything in the mix is dependent on one another.

ok after a bit of research i applied andys settings to my amp and i also cut 60/80 hz down and also from 12 k up a little.

i also read andy mentioning test both speakers as the 2 will sound a little different
so ive made a clip with all of andys advice and i think the results blow the origonal clip away
1 thing though what speaker sounds better top or bottom ?
and what do you think of the over all tone guys ?

not sure if the tones any good if you dig it though i could make some impulses of the engl cab but the results will probably sound like the clip ive posted most impulses ive done in the past come back about 80-90 percent the same as the live sound.

one other thing i noticed was dull eq around the 3000hz area strangly enough no matter how i eq the amp this never comes out any different once recorded could this maybe be a preamp issue colouring the sound ?
