Hey Markgugs, the Yankees Suck!

a win is a win...fa sure. typical sox series though, they beat the teams they're supposed to, and can't beat consistently the upper echelon...

I'm actually looking forward to Clemons getting 300. I don't know why he attracts so much criticism nation wide, to me, a pitcher SHOULD be brash, combative, feisty. Back in the day, they say Bob Gibson would peer at you from the mound, lasering hate at you, and then whip a 95 mph fastball straight at your head. just part of the game.

Well Liz, the funny thing about [most] Red Sox fans' hatred of Roger, they have short memories!

Roger wanted to remain a Red Sox, but Dan Duquette (that idiot) wouldn't offer him the longer contract. He offered only 1 year while Toronto offered 4 years. For a 33-year-old pitcher who'd arguably had his best years, to not take the guaranteed income would have been moronic, and Mr. Duquette could never quite figure that.

So Boston fans' hatred is misdirected, just an FYI.

Oh... don't get me started on what pussies most baseball players are today.

Bob Gibson happens to be one of my all time favorite players. The first chapter of his autobiography reads like a manifesto on how the game should be played. Every ball player should read it.

Who can figure these damned Yankees out?! Ah, well. On a much cooler note, I've been invited to go to a Mariners game with Jim Shepard of Nevermore, heh heh. That ought to make for a funny 3 hours...

Dear New York Yankees,

Just because we're the worst team in baseball, it doesn't mean we're still not glad that YOU have Jeff Weaver on your team now. Ha ha...

Not your pals,

Detroit Tigers

As a very avid Tigers follower, I can tell you that I too once had high hopes for Weaver. AND... I thought he'd come around eventually because of his talent.

It could happen, but I really doubt it. Weaver has great stuff, but he has the maturity level of a 12 year old. If going to the Yankees didn't make him realize that he needs to get his act together, I don't know what will.

Good points both of you about the maturity thing; that's why someone like Derek Jeter, who's mature well beyond his years, was able to be named the starting shortstop at the age of 22, and the newest captain at the age of 28. That doesn't happen for just anyone.

As for Pinella, I sure as fuck hope not. I can't stand that whiny bitch. It's funny you bring him up though, since the M's game I'm going to with Nevermore is against the Devil Rays, in Lou's return to Safeco. Heh, should be fun.

I've always thought the Yankees would be the absolute worst place for a guy with no maturity, the pressure has to be immense.

I get the impression that the Yankees nowadays are a team with veteran leadership that polices themselves so that immature bullshit doesn't go on. I would imagine that when a new kid comes in, especially a cocky one like Weaver, he gets pulled aside by several guys and told "how it is." I could be wrong though...

Well, they normally would be, but something is awry. Weaver got shelled again this afternoon, giving up 10 hits & 6 ERs in only 5+ innings. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss Jose Contreras!

At least the typically reliable Dave Wells pitched a CG gem in the nightcap.
