I set the amps rather dark, but but you'll be able to hear the differences I guess....you might wanna EQ them a bit and treat them with a multiband comp to sound good.

I didn't have the time to set all the amps perfectly, so don't expect too much

Cab was Mesa Recto. just one sm57 on axis, nothing special.
Preamp was API, converter was Apogee ad16x.
I don't really have a favourite yet cause, tbh, I haven't really listened to it...did this whole thing in a hurry and just quickly bounced it down and uploaded it w/o listening to it myself...will do that tomorrow.

Good god that Laney sounds horrid So loose and fuzzy, though it also sounds a bit overgained, which probably adds to it - still, no thanks! I agree they're all quite dark/slightly muddy, too much so for my tastes, and picking a favorite is hard when there are so many options (and it's just the guitars outside of a mix) - the Recto by itself is cool, and I guess the Recto + 5150 would be my favorite; what settings on the Recto did you use?

Cool Lasse. I'd have to say that the Recto was probably the only one that had settings that I would use, the others seemed to have either too many or too little mids. Having said that, all of them have the characer of the amp there, and it's enough to see the Recto+5150 obliterate again IMO. No matter that the 5150 had a smidge too many mids for me, it sat beautifully with the Recto.
Interesting dialing of the JSX, too. So many sub lows and not as many mids as I'd dial, but still cleanable for a mix.

Hmm, that would probably explain the mud; I find I actually prefer the 85 at 9v as 18v tends to extend the bass down a bit, which that pickup hardly needs!

Surprised this thread hasn't gotten more attention - anyway Lasse, I wanted to ask, when the time comes for a final mix, how much surgical cutting do you find you're doing to rhythm guitars? I remember back in the Engl cab days you talked about all the eq you'd have to do, but is that still the case with the Mesa? (especially high frequencies I'm curious about, but others too)

I'm with Marcus....Recto alone is cool and probably Recto + 5150 is the best. But they have all a very very similar sound....there are not too many differences

surgical EQ is still the same, I'm not doing any.
Of course, these tones are too muddy etc, I wouldn't really use them like this but rather reamp again.
in general I'm only doing HP/LP, if I have to do more I reamp till I like it.
