I dissagree. Imagine if he were islamic, there would be the same kind of backlash. But thats immaterial. Christianity is the majority religion, and thus, needs to be questioned the most.

i doubt it; people tend to push PCness overboard these days, and part of being PC is to allow those of "minority" beliefs to express them pretty much anywhere they are...

seperation of church and state... remember when we had to do the pledge of allegiance in gradeschool? kinda strange that we have to "pledge" ourselves every school day, and even stranger that we had di pledge to "one nation under god" And that our currency states "In God We Trust"

Weres the freedom of religion when our nation acts as if every citizen beleives in a god.

Totally agree.

Although I do think people generally go overboard about anything at all that could be seen as anything other than completely liberal.

I wish people would just give up on religion and realize that life is too short and valuable to worry about such things.

I agree in principle, but it seems clear that the government does not take education seriously, and so I don't know if a school can fairly be called a state institution any more.

I like religion. I'm not particularly fond of Religion, though.

I have zero problem with people preaching. It is more the abuse of power that annoys me in this instance. I think half the backlash in this thread is about it being Christian preaching, which is to miss the point.

my problem is that the US has been slowly merging "church and state" for the longest time. I thought we were suposed to have a freedom of religion? i thought it was a huge part of country's fundamentals. But our country is being run by a bunch of christian nuts (and christians are fucked up) and we are getting all of these fucked up laws based on the christian beliefs.

and my beef with the christians is that they're views are crooked, they beleive that your either with them or against them. Anyone that doesnt beleive in what they beleive will be damned for all eternity. Also I was forced through years of CCD which was an hour long program every week that teaches you about christianity and prepares you for the however many sacraments there are. So the religion was shoved down my throat for many years and i hate it.

in my early teens when i started to question my religion, i would have all these thoughts and questions running through my head and the answer to all of them was basically that everything was done by magic, or as the christians told me "faith" you just gotta beleive is what they would say. And the sickest part is that when I would question my faith, i would scare myself by thinking "well what if" and "i dont want to reject jesus and end up in hell" and it was a form of terrorism that made me want to keep beleiving in the religion because for all my life i was taught that there is a god, and there was a jesus, and that i have to beleive in them and love them and all that shit. Eventually i broke the fear and went with what is logical.

In this tale of the teacher who preached in class and the pupil he offended, students and the larger community have mostly lined up with Mr. Paszkiewicz, not with Matthew, who has received a death threat handled by the police, as well as critical comments from classmates.

Greice Coelho, who took Mr. Paszkiewicz’s class and is a member of his youth group, said in a letter to The Observer, the local weekly newspaper, that Matthew was “ignoring the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which gives every citizen the freedom of religion.” Some anonymous posters on the town’s electronic bulletin board, Kearnyontheweb.com, called for Matthew’s suspension.
What the fuck is wrong with these fucking kids? Bunch of goddamn dipshit zombies. Bolded the most offensive part, because it shows not only a complete misrepresentation of the situation, but the kind of faulty thinking that allows religious fanatics in this country to poison the minds of children. SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE, ASSHOLES. Now and forever.

Salute to that kid.
