Children of Bodom - Hate Crew Deathroll
Lordi - The Monsterican Dream
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
Yngwie J. Malmsteen - Rising Force
Swallow The Sun - Ghosts of Loss
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E
System of a Down - Mesmerize/Hypnotize
In Flames - Soundtrack To Your Escape

excludes opeth

I guess you don't like good songwriters much, given that you hate the beatles then like wankers like CoB and Yngwie, along with the worst In Flames album.

And heck, I don't hate Incubus or SOAD - I actually occasionally listen to them both - but neither of them have made a 10/10 album - and in SOAD's case, Hypnotize is a total rehash. IMO selling two albums separately that fit on one disc is reason enough to keep it off of 'best-of' lists, despite the fact that the music is nothing new for them.

Anyway...

Failure - Magnified: A '90s rock band that is much better than Nirvana, AiC, Soundgarden, etc. Most people that have heard of them will tell you that Fantastic Planet is their best work, but personally I disagree. Unforunately they only made 3 albums before breaking up due to a heroin addiction, but their music was dissonant, spacy and unusual, and their lyrics were unique and awesome. Often classified slightly inaccurately as 'Space Rock'.

dredg - El Cielo: This record is simply transcendant. It's not exactly rock, but it is very artsy, and often forays into multiple other genres. Wonderful songwriting, excellent flow, and beautiful climaxes.

Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica: Yeah, that's right. I'm recommending ex-indie rock. Suck it up. This album is incredibly emotional and introspective, and the lyrics are brilliant. Don't blow this band off because of their recent boost in popularity - they're excellent, and their music has a ton of personality.

Ulver - Blood Inside: This stuff is schizophrenic! Ulver commonly switches genres to a ridiculous degree in a period as short as a year, but never before have they combined them all at once! This record can be extremely confusing at first - for example, one song starts with a string synth, goes into a rockish track, and ends with them playing Bach, all in the period of 5 minutes.

Radiohead - Kid A: If you haven't heard this brilliant album already - DO IT! In my opinion, it's better than OK Computer - simply beautiful icy soundscapes.

I second all of the votes for the Mars Volta albums.

Here's a few more if you're really excited for some reason:

Trip-hop:
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Bjork - Homogenic

Underground rap:
Aesop Rock - Labor Days
Saul Williams (s/t)
Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust

Metal:
Isis - Oceanic
Meshuggah - Catch 33
Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance (It's not out yet, but the atmosphere on this disc is fantastic..)
Necrophagist - Epitaph
King Crimson - The Power To Believe

Alternative Rock:
A Perfect Circle - Thirteenth Step
Codeseven - Dancing Echoes/Dead Sounds
Oceansize - Everyone Into Position

your picks look really intriguing actually. I will definatley be checking them out!
I really enjoyed Blood Fire Death & hammerheart, but I've heard people say Nordland isn't that good so its refreshing to hear a different point of view.

Thanks. Most Bathory fans just don't like Nordland because its a lot different and has much better quality than any of the earlier stuff... Its not black metal in any way shape or form... So thats why most people who review it think it sucks; theyre expecting something else.

+1

Everyone in existance NEEDS this album. It IS better than OK Computer. I could probably count on my hands the number of albums I can honestly say that about. Well, maybe... I might need my toes as well

Also, I would have reccommended 'La Masquarade infernale' by Arcturus, because it would be perfect if it weren't for Garms vocals. If only that album had been done a few of years later... he had actually learned how to sings in that style properly then... check 'Vowels' from Ulvers 'A Quick Fix Of Melancholy' ep to see what I mean...

I like instrumental music.

I hate to break this to you but Rising Force has 2 tracks with vocals, and I can enjoy music with vocals easily providing the music is good enough for my taste, I didnt say I was exclusive.
Stop trying to annoy me because you wont succeed, everyone I know slams my music and i dont mind because I enjoy it and thats what matters :D

Of course you can have an opinion, but it should be constructive and not just some childish bullshit about not liking a band just because their name starts with "the" and ends in "s". Which funnily enough, is what you were saying.

You don't have this huge wave of bullshit 'We are rock and write deeply meaningful songs with 3 chords' bands over in New Zealand yet I guess :(.. well it's basically the mainstream here in UK which I abhor.. but it's hard to ignore when your flatmates and family are throwing the albums and posters in your face.. I'm talking about bands like 'The Zutons' 'The Kooks' 'The Arctic Monkeys' 'The Strokes' I could go on.. lol but I won't because it gets boring :(

really? explain yourself!

Im talking about their first 2 btw, I don't regard the negation or the new one as 10 out of 10

because they arn't masterpieces? (pretty much 0% of the albums you people have listed deserve a 10/10)

Genesis - Foxtrot
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
King Crimson - Red
Rush - 2112
Yes - Close to the Edge

Im not slamming your music man, I happen to like Bodom, and if you like Malmsteen then you should look at my recommendations, one of them being a Sherinian album with malmsteen on.
All Im asking of you is that you don't post spam like that shit about the beatles before which wasn't in the least bit constructive.
