HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ALBUMS

some old stuff:

Anacrusis - Screams And Whispers
...totally unique progressive thrash album, both screaming and really awesome clean vocals and lots of solos. No other band sounds like this.

Psychotic Waltz - A Social Grace
...the band called themselves "progressive hippie metal". technical, extremely varied prog metal. no excessive wanking, great songwriting(no need for 10+ minutes songs, though), beautiful melodies!

Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian
...if you can handle high-pitched 80s vocals and like prog metal, try this one, it's totally awesome. this might be the first true progressive metal album. the singer takes some time to get used to, but the more you listen, the more you'll realize that it's him and his unique melodies that make this record so great. A classic!

things i'm reliving / enjoying at the moment.
god macabre - the winterlong
beherit - drawing down the moon
nachtfalke - doomed to die
astriaal - renascent misanthropy
bruce dickinson - the chemical wedding
sodom - persecution mania
dissection - the somberlain

actually, his list was quite good. all tier 1 main-stays in their respected genres. your list on the other hand aside from a few select albums is pretty terrible.

here's some more. I'm focusing on quality non-metal, since it seems like all of you own every important metal cd to be released in the past 200 years...

The Grateful Dead - Live at the Fillmore
The Flower Kings - Back to the World of Adventure
Eric Johnson - Bloom
OZRIC TENTACLES - Curious Corn/ Strangitude (if you havent heard this band and are looking for something fresh, this is a must).
OHM -ST (Chris Poland from Megadeth has a experimental jazz fusion band  )
The Derek Trucks Band - Joyful Noise
Rush - All the worlds a Stage
Radiohead - O.K Computer
PHISH - A Live One
Behold...the Arctopus

EDIT: JOHN 5 - SONGS FOR SANITY
serisouly fellow prog metal heads, open ur minds and check some of this stuff out ;)

When I first heard it, I admit, I had slight problems with the vocals, as they are really different from Primordial's previous releases. I honestly prefer Alan's voice on their older albums, those half-speaking-half-screaming black metal vocals.
Though after a few listens his "singing" grew on me, and nowadays, especially live, "Song of the tomb" and "The Coffin ships" are among my fave songs. Unfortunately I haven't heard them play the full, hauntingly beautiful intro of "The Coffin Ships" at gigs yet, maybe I'll finally get a chance on their upcoming headlining tour? (Well, maybe I should post this "plea" on the Primordial board?)

In Flames - Soundtrack To Your Escape
This is the first album I heard by these guy's and I still prefer it to anything else Ive heard by them (but I am yet to listen to their brand new album so that may change!) This album just has a good feel to it, can't really explain where I coming from here but while listening I just feel like I'm listening to good solid metal - playing it safe maybe but hey thats fine with me sometimes :)

You're really losing out...their back catalogue just doesnt even compare...two diff bands.

Please, man. I'm a big Ulver fan, but the Blake discs were a weak translation - by no means 10/10 material. If nothing more, just because the last song was awful.
