holiday hate thread

i'm boycotting this thread in appreciation of the holiday spirit.

the commercialism, yes, i can do without. but i can turn off the tv and enjoy quiet music, smells of cloves and pine, and people i like.

it would be okay if everyone's merry festivities didn't intrude on me and mine, but it does in the most egregious fashion, and all I want to do is go out and buy a freaking book or CD and I'm beset by Santas and elf mimes, long lines, pushing, shoving, selfishness, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

on the plus side I like the idea of people getting together with their loved ones and if so inclined meditating on spiritual things, but it's all been hijacked by the most low brow crassness.

The holidays are alright. Though it's a pain in the ass traveling and whatnot. Especially when one does it standby and risks missing flights and spending many an hour in the airport.

Also I don't like recieving presents or giving them. To much anxiety and nerves over what to get and upon recieving making it known that I really appreciate the gift.

Though I could use a new jambox for Christmas.

Being a Serb in America is cool because you celebrate Christmas on January 7, so the only crowds you deal with are the Jews who are buying everything after the holiday season at clearance prices.

yikes i hope your dad is okay.

i can NOT wait to give my presents to my niece! jake will attest, toddlers + presents = BIG FUN. i got her soooo many awesome things. one is a giant box of costume jewelry i've managed to get together over a 6 month period. another is one of those trendy poncho sweaters but it's hot pink w/sparkles and made by J. LO herself!
