How is your local music scene?

Its been a long while since I've been to a show there

And the Red 7 is still a really cool place in my opinion.

You lucky bastard... I've seen air conditioning, sound issues, and lighting issues in the same night and not been surprised. I've lost count of how many times I've shown up and been disappointed in something just in about six years of going there, and even when things aren't failing outright they're not exactly happy about being devices of any form.

The jam stage area has uses, but performance isn't really one of them.

EDIT: Didn't see that last post yet. There was some mess with their liquor permit or payments and TABC wanted a hefty sum (middle of the 5 digit range, or something like that) for a security bond... this didn't go over well with people who would be paying said bond, so it's down for a bit (possibly permanently, we'll see) and its shows are moving over to the Warehouse on Houston street.

Hmm, I know the Rabbit has had a couple issues in the past, but none that I have ever seen for myself.
That's interesting to hear that about Scout.
And I've definitely heard of the Warehouse, but I have not yet been able to go to a show there. I will definitely have to check it out.

again pretty much what Ermz said. The issue is, as he stated, there's no where to go if you're good here. Like... you get to a point where you are really good, you play to about 250 people or so on a really good night, you do the rounds through australia.... and that's it... there's no real support network here, no way of being promoted very well at all...

So we all start looking overseas, it tends to work out much better much sooner. There's legions of bands around Australia who've been at it for years, and are at that point of being a "good" aussie band, and then you ask anyone OS and no one knows who they are. It's a shame really..

The problem is that metal bands in Australia stick to themselves and the welkin/soundworks tours and don't get out much. I haven't seen your band in Brisbane nor any press. The red shore is a classic example of a death metal band capitalizing on the popularity and patronage of the hardcore touring circuit.

Purchase. I mean, we have Regina Spektor, she's a great composer and has great tits (though her voice can get annoying)

But, then there's also Dan Deacon. And it's not him that I hate, just his fans.

I think GWAR played Culture Shock a few years ago. Some interesting metal-type bands are coming out of the Studio Comp. program.

Big following, but we are too heavy to play the casinos so we usually work out a deal for a percentage of the bar and our crowd drinks like crazy.

This is what the local experimental/free jazz/weird shit scene has going on down here.

Work out a percentage of the bar then tell all our mates to come down and get pissed as fuck, nice easy to listen to opening band, weird as fuck headline band on later when everyones drunk as fuck.
