Still, we're talking about techniques - tools for advancing the expressed concept to its furthest capacity. You made a distinction between technique and the composition as a whole, the latter for which other factors need to be taken into account methinks. quebec is by far the best place for death metal in the world as far as i'm concerned. I played a fest sorta dealy in toronto in august with Martyr and Augury. was fuckin nuts. Forest (bass player from Augury) is a bloody monster on that thing. very cools guys too.

Descend Into Nothingness is also another amazing band from quebec.

Have you heard of Ion Dissonance? I never heard their stuff, but I think they are similar to Meshuggah and the likes ( I don't like that genre that much )
