How old were you when you started smoking ?.

Yeah, but you can't force the private business owner to make their establishment non-smoking. That isn't ethical. The state shouldn't decide which establishments should be smoking or non-smoking, it should be up to the establishments themselves.
It is ethical for the government to tell people they cannot non consensually negatively affect the health of others in public places.

I guess I am a giant wussy woman for wanting to be comfortable and healthy.

No one's forcing you to do anything. No one says 'go to a bar with smokers, or else'. Just go somewhere without smokers. It's not that hard, but I suppose that out there in hick-land, the options aren't too numerous, huh? Seriously, at least form a coherent argument before bothering me with your juvenile nonsense again.

And no one is forcing people to smoke. My argument here is pretty straight-forward and logical, you're the one who's bringing in this "HURRR GROW A PAIR" nonsense. Who's the juvenile one: The guy saying "I shouldn't have to alter go out of my way to avoid smoke. Smokers, since there is NO NEED to smoke anywhere, should be the ones who are inconvinienced" or the one saying "Well if you want to breath without inhaling toxins you should go somewhere else or just get used to it, even though you don't need to". I think it's pretty obvious that it's you who is being unreasonable.

And you should really drop the "hick-land" nonsense. It makes you sound like a conceited prick... Actually, I suppose you can't help it.

And you might feel differently about the 'wuss argument' when your balls finally drop.

Go fuck yourself, you Euro-trash cock sucking piece of shit. Calling someone a "wuss" is some pretty third grade bullshit.

Oh yeah, and breathing in second hand smoke those few hours a month when you're at a bar or pub, that IS A TRIFLE.

If it's such a fucking trifle, why can't smokers just take their shit outside? By your logic, they really need to grow a pair if they can't get up and walk outside for a minute. Are smokers really so hopelessly addicted to cigarettes that, rather than smoke outdoors, they simply deny that it is harmful and irritating to others.

It's never ethical for the government to dictate how a private business owner should conduct its operations. That's borderline socialism.

If a bar owner wants to alienate some of his/her clientèle by making the bar non-smoking, great. They have made the choice to sacrifice some of their profit margin for a healthier environment. If not, fine, it's a privately-owned business and the government shouldn't fuck with it unless illegal shit is going on.

The obvious exception is OSHA, as employees should be safe in the workplace. However, who would want to work in unsafe conditions, anyway?

I'm going to fall into the camp of 'If you can't deal with it, go somewhere else.' Some places also offer outside seating, which can be utilized by non-smokers as well.

The problem with that is, everyone needs to breath. No one needs to smoke, and many people choose not to smoke at all. Why should the one making the choice to smoke drive away those who don't wish to smoke?

I can understand if you go into a bar where nearly everyone is smoking, someone who doesn't want to be around the smoke should move. But are you saying that if a group of people are sitting around a bar counter and one person decided to smoke, the others should have to either deal with it or move? If the smoker needs a cigarette so badly that he is willing to bother everyone else with it, why can't he just smoke somewhere else?

Well, I usually go to bars where more than 70% of the people there are smoking (not by choice, it just happens that way).

I don't really know how to answer that because almost everyone I hang out with smokes constantly and I don't. I respect their right to smoke and if they light up, I don't move. If I was sitting with a group of people and only one person decided to light up, I wouldn't move.

Well, quite frankly, being bothered by something as inconsequential as second-hand smoking at bars, and whining about it, is something I consider to be very unmanly. To be quite honest, the more time I kill around this forum, the more I start to wonder whether there actually are some cultural differences, where I previously thought there to be none.

What a fucking crock of shit. The amount of research that has been done on smoking that proves it to be harmful is staggering. So because people have become more educated and informed about the dangers of smoking and don't want to be around it, that makes them "unmanly"? Fuck off.

And your whole "No-one's forcing you to go where there's smoking" argument is also bullshit. In most countries, smoking is allowed in EVERY pub, bar & club. What if I want to go see a band? Oh, fuck they allow smoking in band venues, oh well. I just wont go see bands anymore. This is fucked, and I'm mighty glad they've changed the law here. Watching the smokers huddled together out in the freezing cold is great revenge for all the times I've come home with red eyes, reeking of cigarette smoke and coughing.

^.

honestly, my opinion as a social smoker, is that its not too big of a deal to have to go outside to smoke when at restaurant. Secondhand smoke has been proved to have effects on people and anyone who says this isnt true can talk to my grandmother who has lung cancer because of all the second hand smoke she breathed in from the bar she used to work at it. Stop being ignorant to facts because your trying to prove a point. Second hand smoke is dangerous and it isnt a bad law to move smokers outside so others dont have to deal with it.

It's a bad law for other reasons, though.

Care to elaborate? The only reason that I can see is that now all the smokers have to go outside, they drop their fucking butts everywhere. It's bizarre. People who usually wouldn't litter, constantly throwing non-biodegradable rubbish on the ground like it isn't actually litter at all.

I can't beleive people complain about people smoking in a bar. Are you people brain dead? It is a goddamn bar for fucks sake. You don't want to be around smoke. DON'T GO TO A BAR! Wow, thats some amazing shit right there.

As for restaurants, that a different matter, and I support the banning of smoking is such establishments.

second hand smoke is bad for everyone, thats why they ban that shit.
you wanna hurt yourself, go ahead. but when smoking you hurt everyone else too.

that and I hate smelling like shit, and my eyes are dry enough as it is. Walk out of a bar having red as fuck eyes sucks.

Call yourself a man? You're a fucking pussy!

Guess what? I like going to bars to meet up with friends and have a beer. I also like to go and see bands play. And I fucking hate coming out of these places stinking like fucking cigarettes. And the law has been passed here banning that shit, and it'll (one day) be passed in the USA as well, so suck it.

It's a bad law because it creates lost business for all establishments.

I'm with Evil? though. Smoking and bars have gone hand in hand since bars were created. Going to a bar and not expecting people to smoke is a given there. It shouldn't be banned in bars (if you're going to force banning something like that).

Smoking bans have been passed in a few cities around the U.S. already. New York has had it for a while now, and Philadelphia more recently. Other than those, I don't know any specific cities that have banned smoking indoors, though.

Bars have employees and they have to be around it every day for hours. Not safe at all

It is already banned in Massachusetts and New York if I remember correctly
