I don't know how to say this without being offensive, but...

Well it's not exactly something they try to conceal actively. It could well be a culmination of factors, possibly the pot being one of them, I don't know... with nothing more to go on I suppose this discussion here is pointless.

In any case, all the best to him again and I hope we see Opeth touring again soon unscathed.

It was probably from internal pressures or band/label/touring pressures or family trouble or a questioning of faith or one of the 5 million different things a person must deal with in a life that could cause you to snap.

Drugs? Who knows? I say we leave it to M. Lopez and his parientes to decide and deal. We should be supportive.

That was probably expected, but I digress. It's how I feel. It's our nature as fans to wonder, but if it were me, I'd wish the fans wouldn't.

When Opeth were down here in Houston Martin L. told me himself that weed wasnt getting him as high as it once used to so now he smokes more and does stronger drugs.

I wish Martin a healthy and quick recovery.

STUPID PEOPLE SUPPROTING STUPID RUMORS

newsflash:There is a war going on in Iraq and another one between Israel and Palestine. Terrorist are doing suicide bombings in countries like Israel and Turkey. There were 4 recent bombings in Turkey. couldn't it be just Martin fearing to be killed in a country like Jordan which is not too far away from those places? wouldn't you be at least afraid if before your flight from peaceful Sweden to tension filled MiddleEast. get some fucking point, people... don't be fucking stupid... everyone who talked to Martins can know that they smoke pot/hash, but it is not a good thing to advertise that on their official forum and it is even worse to blame their gig cancellations on drug addiction...

stop being stupid...

Regardless of the cause of the breakdown... it doesnt change a fucking thing to do with their music. Opeth are a band that makes fucking incredible music.

They're just human. What should matter to you people is your own lives, and enjoy the music of others, instead of constantly criticizing the work of others and delving into their lives.

He's probably just WORN OUT from being on tour for so long. Opeth hasn't ever toured this much, and for a young guy like Lopez, it's gotta be a new and stressful outing. Personally I don't blame him for not wanting to play in Jordan, but I doubt that drugs had anything to do with it. I've had panic attacks in the past and they always occurred when I was dead sober.

Either way, best to Martin, he's an amazing drummer, and all the best to Opeth, my favorite damn band.

I dont think it has to do with drugs. Its most likely due to the hectic schedule and his shyness. Hes the only opeth member I never see come out to do signings. I've had to ask the other members to give him the stuff to sign.

Now that I've thought about the possibility of Opeth doing drugs, I'm no longer a fan. Martin Lopez's personal life completely affects my look at the band's work. BULL!

IMO smoking the dope is not taking drugs.

That's not your opinion. Smoking pot is taking a drug for fact. It's worse than coffee. Coffee wakes you up. Drinking coffee is taking a drug, but no one thinks so because it's legal. It can only be damaging after too much. Pot affects you negatively from the first time you take it. If you find memory loss to be a positive side effect, so be it, but pot is a drug.

From what it says in Lopez's biography, that his favorite drink is water, I wouldn't have guessed he'd be doing drugs. I just assumed that because a lot of people over 21 drink if they smoke.
