Operation Mindcrime by Queensryche...should i get it and have a listen???

A mate of mine when i was at highshool used to listen to them, but i never got into them....but having said that i have more of an open mind now and maybe should give them a go, particularly the above mentioned album which seems to receive alot of praise.

IMO, the fifth best album of all time.

In 1990, I was looking thru our local record store (a closet with albums), and came across this album, Operation : Mindcrime, for only $5 brand spanking new.
I knew Queen Of The Reich, and loved it (pure 80's...), so on a whim I bought it.

Probably the best off-the-cuff purchase I have ever made.
I still have it, along with the CD version, the remastered CD version, the Livecrime CD version, and the Livecrime DVD.

Perhaps I'm slightly obsessed with it, after all.....

pffft....

I picked it up today. Had a listen to it in the car while i was driving around. Seems to a dark mood/vibe to it, and a genuine concept running through it.

Without upsetting people's high opinions of this album, nothing has really grabbed me so far, even though there are a few bits that i thought were good. Perhaps it will grow on me.

As for those people that think the album is superior to Seventh Son....I disagree (my opinion of course). Yes, it is a TRUE concept album (unlike SSOASS - which is a 'half-arsed' concept album according to many)...but musically, it isn't anywhere near the strength of SSOASS (in my opinion)

Keep listening. And you don't have to keep saying "in my opinion", nobody else does when they're stating something they believe is true. :)

It's okay Spiff, im not dissing the album, but perhaps it has been given too much hype and i expected more? I will give it a few more spins before i make up my mind.

I say my opinion, because i dont want to sound arrogant as if my opinion is some sort of *fact* that i can prove on an objective basis, because it isn't.

And while i may not love the album (yet) i respect the opinions of those of you who do love it.

:)

Well, Mindcrime and SFAM are my 2 fave concept albums.

I won't talk about Scenes now, cause I would go for hours, but it fuckin rules :rock

Mindcrime is bloody brilliant though. My favorite song is Suite Sister Mary. My god that song builds up like no other!
The whole album craetes one big motherfucka of a mood, and it has so much emotion throughout!
It will grow on you dude, trust me!
Everybody who owns it loves it

Operation Mindcrime is indeed a great concept album, up there with the afformentioned Scenes, and Symphony X's V:The Mythology Suite.

Remember most cd's get better after a few listens.

But I'd say Mindcrime is a brilliant cd, especially the opening 5-6 tracks. I prefer the opening tracks to the closing ones.

Just give it time TAS, I didnt think it was as good as was made out to be when I first heard it, but trust me, it just gets better :)
