Well now I'm getting some good bass tones and with the drums and bass I'm happy, but then I add the guitars and all the upper presence of the bass vanishes and I'm just left with all low end and no tone or midrange. The guitars gobble it all up!

Any tips on keeping the bass's midrange shredding without the guitars covering it up?

that's why i usually try to get the drums and guitars down 1st, then "tuck" the bass in there to fill out the sonic gaps in the low end

Find (or make) gaps in the guitar mids where the bass sounds better. My bass tracks almost always have a RAT on them so I have that nasty growl coming through; that's how I do it, at least.

Do any of you guys have tips on reducing noise when heavily compressing bass?
I always get a lot of skanky noise or artifacts or whatever.

It's not too noticable when everything is playing, but when it's just bass, it's pretty bothersome.

Record just the noise, invert phase and add it to the mix.
