I guess it's unlikely you could fly direct to Ljubljana from the US, but I know EasyJet fly there from London so it'd only be one stop.

I've found 1-stop flights from NJ/NYC -> Ljubljana, but the price is insane ($1500 US r/t). I've found flights to Trieste, Italy that are about $1000 US r/t, but even that....sigh....

i agree, last time I went to Hungary in 2000, it wasn't even $400 r/t, granted it was in October ... might be the high fuel prices.

So it's the same cost (basically) for me, on the east coast of the U.S., to get to Slovenia as it is for you, 3500 miles away?

That's what I mean. If it was JUST fuel costs, that couldn't possibly be the case. It's just the airlines RIPPING US THE FUCK OFF. [/rant]

Last time I flew there, I flew into vienna first, then took a hop over to Ljubljana. I believe the flight to Vienna was around 700-800. As far as accomodations, I lucked out since my uncle and his wife live in Ljubljana, so I stayed there. I do know that hotels within the capital are reasonable, or so I have been told. Within the city you can pretty much walk anywhere or take cheap public transportation via bus. There are a variety of bus services throughout the country as well, that seemed to be the easiest mode of travel that I found. Travel really wasnt a hassle, I didnt run into a great number of fluent english speakers, but I managed to get by without having to have an interpreter. The bus and train stations in the capital were a breeze getting through, people I met were generally friendly, no one seemed to vehemently anti-american or anything.

Cool, that sounds awesome.

I'm so in love with Europe, especially these newer "modern" countries, i.e. ye olde Europe. I so badly want to see them, and the costs associated are just so prohibitive for me right now. :erk:

But that sounds sweet. I never even thought of Slovenia until I read about this Metal Camp festival, then I started doing a little bit of research and was amazed at how utterly gorgeous the country seems to be.

I knew I'd be misunderstood, but probably because I didn't explain myself well.

What I mean is old bloc countries who are just recently being discovered by the west, etc. Slovenia is of course a very old nation, but it wasn't exactly a hub of tourism even 15 years ago.

Does that make more sense?

I'm paying $3600 for 4 roundtrip airfares from NY to London in July.

Unbelievable. (And this was the cheapest I could find). Flying just aint what it used to be.

$490 return flight Toronto to Paris, my girlfriend and I might go for it, but we need to decide by the end of February and... fuck, so much schoolwork! No time to decide! :erk:
