Start with SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES.
I dunno, it's like their Master of Puppets, in a way.
I always thought that album encompasses everything that is Iced Earth.

Don't start with THE DARK SAGA.
Personally, it might be my favorite.
Many damn it to hell, since it is a very straight forward metal record.

After Barlow joined the band, they re-recorded many of the older material with Matt on vocals, entitled DAYS OF PURGATORY.

Yes, that is quite stellar as well, though for someone completely unfamiliar with a band, I would probably not recommend a live album for starters.

Though that's just my opinion.

Everyone is going to suggest something different, but my favs are Night of the Stormrider followed by Burnt Offerings. However, they rarely play those songs live.

Yep - and I'd also highly recommend "Days of Purgatory" to hear Barlow's studio versions of tracks found on NotS and the s/t debut.
