Erik said:google's algorithms work a lot by checking what sites link to your sites and what words they use for linking
so if you have a page about ducks but everyone links to it (for some reason) using the word "shoes", your "duck" page will show up in a "shoes" search regardless of the actual contents
it does also take into account the actual contents of the site, of course
i'm not the best person to ask about how to improve your pagerank though
it can be done but if you try to use shady methods to artificially improve your rank google is often smart enough to either de-index your page completely or downgrade its rank
