IE 7 Beta 2 Preview

had some problems with the new IE also ... quicktime was freaking out ...
my antivirus software wigged ...

and I did not like the placement for some of the buttons on the toolbar, and could not customize it.

uninstalled it for now ...

fotmbm is right you know tip no. 1: because the code that all shit design programs generate is HORRIBLE, very hard to maintain, and never displays correctly in all browsers

I know he's right, but I don't have time to learn anything else. Also, the websites I've done aren't exactly high profile.

I've had a few issues too. I'll give it some more time.

You can customize the buttons, but I removed my Google search stuff, because it couldn't be customized to fit the way I want. Is that what you mean?

it was more the placement of the buttons ... like the < > page ones and the refresh ...

I mean, the tabbed windows was the best feature ... and that is no biggie

This is the 2nd Beta version. It just came out yesterday.

Not sure about that. This is what I've been using for about 2 months.

I believe the one released 2 months ago was the first 'public' beta, but before that they had a closed beta that got leaked to the intarweb. So, the one just released is the 2nd beta, according to MS. Could be wrong.

footbalm's advice #1 is good advice. Saying you design webpages when you use Frontpage is like saying you race cars because you r0x0rz on Grand Turismo. Not exactly the same thing.

Whilst on this topic of web design.

How the FUCK do you get your damn site listed in the top 10 on Google?

Both Yahoo and MSN had it in the top 5 months ago. I've done all the stuff I could to get spiders or whatever to crawl it. I'm using a very specific search phrase in my HTML content. I don't remember the names for all the stuff I've done, because it was last August.

chances are if you're deliberately trying to increase your rankings by inserting keywords, google will downgrade you in their rankings

google's algorithms work a lot by checking what sites link to your sites and what words they use for linking

so if you have a page about ducks but everyone links to it (for some reason) using the word "shoes", your "duck" page will show up in a "shoes" search regardless of the actual contents

it does also take into account the actual contents of the site, of course

i'm not the best person to ask about how to improve your pagerank though
it can be done but if you try to use shady methods to artificially improve your rank google is often smart enough to either de-index your page completely or downgrade its rank

Thanks. I tried to stay away from what I thought was shady. People linking to me is pretty hard. I decided I didn't want to spend days and days getting legitimate links. I even bought a program, Arelis, that was supposed to help with that, but it still takes way too much time.

Its actually my wife's site, otherwise I'd give the URL to everybody here. If anybody wants weight loss counseling, I can hook you up, though. The program is excellent, by the way. I have nothing to do with it, other than the website.

I put a TON of work into it, so I hope it can make some money someday.

you're trying to get a site about WEIGHT LOSS, one of the three most popular email/website spam subjects on the internet (other than porn + penis enlargement), into the top 10 results on google

good fucking luck man, you'll need it to say the least

Nobody knows exactly what google, et al, do, but a few things that have been proved to help:

text in the 'title' tag on the page gets a higher weight.
text in 'header' tags (h1, h2, h3, etc) get more weight than just regular text

But, yeah, the biggest thing is what Erik says, being linked to by high-ranking sites with relevant keywords.
