I'm getting into Children Of Bodom what CD do you recommend I get first?

I remember someone who played bed of razors, and upload it on this board a few weeks ago, and if my memory's good, I think he said it was one of their easiest song... Soooo....??

Or maybe the solo is technical ?

I think that a lot of ppl don't even know what the word technical is referring to...

Bed of Razors is not technical, even the solos are easy to play. I mean, I've been playing guitar about once a week for less than a year and I could play those solos easily if I tried. Heh, not Downfall's though. :)

actually I do think Hatebreeder is more technical.

it's not about the speed, or how many notes you can play per second. and certainly not about the difficulty of the riffs.

I mean, I can play some parts of Bed of Razors as well, and I am a very bad guitar player.

but anyway, Bed of Razors itself has some amazing moments, like the dissonant part right at the beginning, which is easy to play but is so brilliant!

and also the very dark moment of Children of Bodom... so what I mean is: in terms of composition, I think Hatebreeder kicks some serious ass.

sure, the production of FTR is much better, and they play fast as hell, and it sounds more like classic, old-school metal than Hatebreeder. but here is my piece of advice for the newbie here:

Children of Bodom is not a question of quality. all their albums kick ass furiously. it's rather a question of taste. go to your local heavy metal store and give the CDs a listen before you buy. but get yourself some money first, you may end up buying the three of them. :)

I got my first taste of CoB about a year or so ago when a friend of mine played "Bodom After Midnight" and I was hooked. The next day I went out and got Follow The Reaper, and it kicked my ass all over the place...I was floored! Afterwards, I got both Something Wild and Hatebreeder, and listen to all of them every chance I get. :)

well Stun, it's just my opinion, but I consider a band "technical" if their compositions involve a lot of musical theory and complexity, and not just tuning down their guitars and making "heavy, fast music"

but that's just what I think, I may be wrong of course
