iOS4 is Live

Well coincidentally I broke the glass on my 3g coming out of the audio booth the same day pre-orders started...And since apple never estimates the proper amount of orders....Ill be testing the new os out JULY 19TH when my damn new one arrives.

If only my net wasn't capped :(
seems like an awesome update.
Keen to get it.

Also, anyone know if they are phasing out 3g's completely any time soon?
Keen to get a new iPhone(cracked screen, volume thing broken out) but would be choice to get a 3GS instead of a 3g.

Spose I'll have to wait and see if my friend gets a 3GS instead of a 3G, though i am very doubtful.

Yeah get the S fo sho...

As for the iOS4 update from the v3.x... cool stuff. Multi-tasking and folders work a treat. No complaints really. I also didn't expect crazy changes either, and you shouldn't. They just made some improvements, most of which you probably won't even notice other than the obvious multi/folders/mail/etc. that they tout on the site as the main points. I did see that Meebo still has to reconnect when I come back to it during multi-tasking as it did before in iOS3, but I also don't think it was been updated since 4's release to take advantage of the multi yet. Pandora running while switching to other apps works perfectly, pretty cool. With your photos you will notice a new category called Places. I didn't remember reading about it but I probably did (more than once too, lol). I tapped that and up came a map with some pins in it. Tapping on a pin brings up the pic(s) that were taken at that GPS location, kinda neat. Mail is cool, I didn't find anything wrong with how it was before, but it's basically a little more optimized maybe for those with 500 e-mail accounts or something. Again, don't expect to feel like you are going to be blown away - these are really basic things and small changes and, after all, features that should have been implemented much sooner IMO. Either way, still totally satisfied with my phone, I was before iOS4 was even mentioned, but moreso now I guess haha.

Well it's definitely not a step backwards by any means. The new features are cool, they work as advertised, and within the first 20 minutes or so using the new OS I could zip around noticeably easier and faster going from one thing to another, etc.

The only "complaint" I guess I would have is with the folders. They work great, managing them is really simple, easy to do, etc. However, the 12 app limitation is kinda annoying if you have 13 or 15 apps you want to group together. For instance, I have two Games folders, 1 and 2. 1 has 12 game apps. 2 has 3 game apps. I would have liked to see pages implemented into the folders just like the main screens, to avoid this very situation. But I found a solution to this - download moar gamez!

Also, I highly recommend organizing your apps within iTunes with regards to folders, it's just faster that way.

So, in short, yes it is cool beans.

"New features" that have already been on Nokia phone for several years:

- Create playlists: check
- Digital zoom on camera: check
- Tap to focus video: nope, but not sure about the touchscreen models
- Faces and places in photos: nope

That's right, fucking pinstripe bg baby. Classy.

Here you see the two Games folders, the 2nd one I deliberately just went through the App Store and found some more games to install because I'm OCD and having only 3 in a 2nd folder was killing me... can't ever have too many anyway.

Multi-tasking here. Start Up! is a news app (highly recommend, I think $1.99, no ads and tons of news sites), I had Pandora going and reading news articles this morning when I got to work, already liking this feature.

And lastly:

The Places feature in Photos. If you press that blue circle-arrow thing it takes you to a screen with the photos listed that were taken at that location.

And ahj, honestly I don't have a prob with you but you can kindly fuck off out of my thread if that's the kind of bullshit you are going to bring into it. I don't want some stupid fucking bullshit starting. This thread is just god damn talking about iOS4, I don't give a FUCK about other phones that may have had the same features before iPhone.

Feature all other phones in the world don't have: being an iPhone.

That's about as relevant as the post you made. For once let's keep a thread about Apple shit on topic.

Moral of his post:"I don't like apple" ?
yeah ahjteam, seriously...can this crap man... it's just such as this that leads to big fights on this forum and makes me want to leave. your points are weak at best, totally inaccurate at worst, and your "who gives a fuck?"s just beg the reply, "Me" from everyone who does care... so cut it out please. we have enough issues here with the influx of new users that are nearly wrecking this place with their idiocy, we no longer need, nor should we any longer stand for, regulars that still trying to ruin it with partisan B.S. every single solitary time ANYthing comes up about computers, OS software, phones, or DAW choices.

why the hostility?

why? it was directly in response to YOUR hostility... stop acting so damned innocent. your smart-assed (and very debatable) "checklist" was exactly what you intended it to be... smart-assed. that's hostility, stop being disingenuous about it.

So anyways back on topic...006- im assuming the new OS has a customizable background now? Or have you already jailbroken it

yes, that feature is added now.... and that's one i've been scratching my head about why it took them so long. it truly is about damned time on that one.

as far as multi-tasking.. i understand why they took more time with it... they've implemented it better i think. they wanted to add it only when they could figure out how to implement it so that running multiple apps did not significantly add to battery drain. after using it for a while today, i can say they've done a good job in that regard.

digital zoom on cams i don't care about. i only ever use optical zoom and my cameras, and since that's not practical on a cell phone, i just won't zoom on my cell phone.

but the home screen issue is just waaay overdue.

Yes it's customizable with any images you would like, as well as diff images for home and the lock screen. Couple of more screenshots showing that:

And you can pick from either pre-installed "Wallpaper" or from camera roll, as you can see. Here are the bulk of the wallpapers included, there are three more at the bottom I couldn't fit, as well as the 4 above it, so quite a few included:

Agreed, alot of the features they are adding are things that should have been implemented from the get go. But if they held off for stability and power issues then that is all well and good in my book, Id rather wait a little longer for a solid piece of software instead of getting a half assed attempt at what it could have been. And as far as the camera on it i really could care less about that. It's cool to have, but not a selling point for me at all.

That's sweet, As i said earlier im waiting on the iphone 4 which apple is saying wont arrive at my door until july 19th so im gonna just hold off on it seeing as my screen has a permanent spider web on it atm. Either way the new features are great and seem to make workflow on the phone alot more streamline.

1 more question....When OS3.0 came out they were designing all new apps for it. Are they doing the same for 4?
