Is it just me or does the new Chimaira just sound like...

Who produced this one? Not like I have any interest in listening to it after reading all this, just curious!

The follow-up to 2007's "Resurrection" will be recorded with producer Ben Schigel [...] Mixing duties will be handled by Chris "Zeuss" Harris.

Working with Zeuss on this album will bring a completely different vibe [...] we feel this guy is going to make the new record sound like an axe just hit you in the mouth.

Well, he sure did. :zombie:

edit: Remember who mastered Death Magnetic?

"The Infection" was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York City with Ted Jensen and Chris "Zeuss" Harris

How they could be happy with a mix like this after how Resurrection sounded is beyond me.
Wow..

Wow, you just described basically all of Chimaira's music to me :P

+1
The only song I actually enjoyed listening to was "six" because I thought it was structured well and is fairly progressive, but the rest of the songs sounded like something I could write at a couple of band practices. Easy open string riffs needing just a tight right hand.

But they do play it well regardless :/

i like the mix, although it is a bit clean and clinical. The music isn't anything outstanding, but the verse thing is a bit groovy. The vocals sound a bit off in comparison to their older work. I'm not even a big chimaira fan but i still think it's decent, not necessarily a single though.

Those rhythm guitars are very small sounding

i haven't listened to the songs...but i never thought i'd hear that about this band - not after the amazing tones on impossibility of reason

they dont accept requests from BANDS on myspace what a dick head they are. lol.

Neither does Killswitch.

The actual song is lame even by Chimaira standards, I don't think they're hot shit anyway, I found their last album boring as hell, but this sounds even worse and the production is pretty piss poor sounding.

The semi-eerie samples are annoying, the guitars sound shitty, the vocals don't sit well and the song seems lifeless and uninspired. Rest of the album better be good but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

The vocal performances seem quite a bit behind resurrection to me, which is a shame - these sound quite a bit weaker.

resurrection was a really great album for chimaira, i hope this is one of the songs that fits nicely into the album rather than being one of the standout songs, as unfortunately to me it sounds pretty un-inspired

I feel bad for liking the guitar tone now...... but i agree on the mix and specially parts of the song being weaker in terms of music .

Well considering the situation they are in (slap together a full production album in 3 months) Doesn't sound too bad. It sucks that they have been shit on by everyone since they have entered the biz, I believe they are a lot better than people give them credit for.

Didn't like it the first time I listened. I like it now though. Not the best thing they have done, but I will buy the album for sure.

That verse riff is like a backwards, less-good version of slaughtered by Pantera.

I think the whole pro-tools precision vibe works quite well for Chimaira, but I'll agree that this song is 'uninspired', which seems to be the central theme to this seminar.

And how much better does Powertrip sound (song and production) when it kicks in!
