Is it just me or does the new Chimaira just sound like...

DVD is about 42 minutes or so.

Somewhat in depth, not as much as previous efforts, but still a good watch. You'd probably be pretty disappointed if you aren't a big fan of the band and/or you paid the CD/DVD price for the DVD alone. I'm sure you'll find rips of it on youtube at different points.

Oh yeah, I don't know if it's an added track or what, but the very last song on the CD I got (fromt he deluxe package or whatever) after the instrumental, is by faaaar the best song on the CD, and it sounds like it was rushed mixwise, which leads me to believe it's a bonus track or something?

At any rate, that song is more in line with TIOR and should have been the template for the whole CD!

After listening to the full CD, I can say it's one that will grow on me, and it's not as bad as my first impression when I listened on Myspace, but still not up there with TIOR...They just need to stick to their guns and write simple, fast, thrashy songs like TIOR.

Nate, thanks for the reply. Appreciated. :kickass:

It took me about 10 listens, but I really dig this album. I still find their S/T to be my personal favorite though.

If nothing else, its nice that they tried something different. I will say that Andols playing on this album is quite straight forward and boring. Dude showed so much more flair on TIOR.

Am I the only one that likes this??? I love the drum sound. The guitar sounds really thick...almost like there's nou tubescreamer...which i like on certain stuff. I also really dig the dark sound they got going with the slower stuff.

Yeah It's definitely grown on me. The mix is really good, and it hasn't been overly compressed in the mastering stage. If only they would re-master Resurrection.

Think that all the tunes by themselves are good, but as a whole the album never takes off. Its like there all around the same tempo and all the songs run into each other for me. Also not a fan of the mix, sounds flat to me no oomph to it. Guitars rock though!

This isn't my favorite Chimaira album, but I've grown fond of it.

I think the production is great, it's not the same as Andy's work, but it's still pretty cool.

One of my favorite songs is "The Disappearing Sun", that song has a great vibe.

I hated it when I first heard it, but it has grown on me. At first nothing stood out, it was all very similar in feel and tempo, but after several months of listening to it (especially taking it in as a whole album and not just in individual songs) I have started to like what I'm listening to. Yes, it still sounds very same throughout, but I'm digging the atmosphere and almost crushing type nature of it.

Unfortunately, this album hasn't grown on me...The songs are just a little too slow for my taste in their music. I really like the mix, though, which at first a lot of people were bagging on. Outside of that, I can't say much. I listened quite a bit for a week and haven't listened since...But I also think my tastes in metal are falling to heavier, faster material in general, so a LOT of my CD's aren't getting played anymore.
