Is it just me or does the new Chimaira just sound like...

the sounds sound really detached. the song elements just don't mix with eachother and sound like they aren't from the same sessions, especially the snare, (which is propably the only thing that sounds good) is just superloud and sitting on top of everything. like all the band members were playing different song...

Saw them live the other day, and they played two new songs (Secrets, and Destroy.) They sounded pretty heavy, but they were both kinda slow and they just ploddded along. I wasn't really feeling them too much.

I'm liking this album....It's not fast..but heavy enough..

But there's something on the Venom Inside. That change feels very sudden.
I'm saying it's a change from 4/4 to 6/8. But then my collegue says here it's a tempo change.
Anyone with thoughts on that?

THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT Chimaira is the production.
I like this one too.
BUT this songs are so bbbbbbboooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnng
This helps to fall a sleep very fast

Massive chimaira fan, loved everything up to now apart from the S/T and i can safely say that i havent been more crushingly dissapointed with a release for years. How they went from Resurrection to this is beyond me. Both in terms of music and production. The vocal performances seem weak, guitar tone is lacking and most importantly the songs are ridiculously boring. I never thought id say this about andols aswell but his drumming on this album seems repetitive, and the overall tempo remains pretty constant throughout the record making it seem monotone and flat. Been trying to get into it all day with no success :(.

I think its bad for Zeuss that this record sucks so much!!!!
I totaly think, if chimaira wrote new hits like "power trip" nobody would picking on the production!!!
I think the production is the best of the full package:)
But the mastering is way too hot. The snare punches too hart!!!
normaly Zeuss stuff isnt that loud

Picked this up today and I think the CD sounds pretty good. The guitar tone is killer to me, and the snare is great.

I'm not going to pick apart the songs, that's been done enough, but listening to the CD and watching the DVD, I kinda get where they were coming from more now, and I can appreciate the change of pace. The slower tempos definitely give it a darker, more gloomy feel, and it seems like they focused more on a slow heavy groove, which is cool I guess. Overall, I like what I've heard so far on the CD much better than my first impressions off what's been online.

How long and in-depth is the DVD? I still enjoy the Resurrection and Dehumanizing Process DVD's. I really only bought the albums for the DVD's. I have listened a couple of times to a couple of the songs myspace and they don't make me want to buy the CD, but if the DVD is good and has some good recording-related content I might pick it up.

Thanks for any feedback.

I dunno about the whole CD but The Venom Inside is fucking brutal. Impending Doom is a pretty decent song too, I just fucking hate the fact that they are playing this entire cd at 100bpm or whatever it is they used.

Rob Arnold on mastering....
"Rob Arnold: Because of all that "Death Magnetic" stuff, Mark said he didn't want any compression on this record. There's actually little to no compression on "The Infection" because of the "Death Magnetic" thing."

Why are musicians so retarded? Are they all fucking deaf? Of fucking course there's compression on your record Rob...It's a totaly normal thing to do! Ugh Im sick of clueless musician's spouting off at the month about productions when they dont know dick about the subject. It's abit like when nmemic talked shit about triggers saying that it ment that the drums were fake and it made the parts easy to play or some stupid shit.

DVD is about 42 minutes or so.

Somewhat in depth, not as much as previous efforts, but still a good watch. You'd probably be pretty disappointed if you aren't a big fan of the band and/or you paid the CD/DVD price for the DVD alone. I'm sure you'll find rips of it on youtube at different points.

Oh yeah, I don't know if it's an added track or what, but the very last song on the CD I got (fromt he deluxe package or whatever) after the instrumental, is by faaaar the best song on the CD, and it sounds like it was rushed mixwise, which leads me to believe it's a bonus track or something?

At any rate, that song is more in line with TIOR and should have been the template for the whole CD!

After listening to the full CD, I can say it's one that will grow on me, and it's not as bad as my first impression when I listened on Myspace, but still not up there with TIOR...They just need to stick to their guns and write simple, fast, thrashy songs like TIOR.
