I don't think that there will ever be the time that EVERYONE will be just avoiding threads that are noobish, sadly. there's always gonna be someone who has such usefull things to say as "and again there comes the noob /facepalm, let the killing beginn".
So the "easiest" way to help that would be as marcus said, lock the thread with a standard post a la "this question can be easily answered if you use the search function, heres the link to the sneap search, have a nice day & THERE IS NO MIRACLE PLUGIN!!!".
It would be great if those kind of things would work without it, but I doubt it.
would be quite a lot of work to moderate that though, and would need more guys to do so.

hey yeah that's a pretty good idea, I was saying before that just saying "thread deleted, read the rules you fuckface, that's your first warning, second and you're out" but yeah that idea can also work well. I still like my extreme idea better, but the other one is cool too.
About who can be moderator, well, we can easily hold a poll as we unofficially did when Lasse was chosen, but this time we would choose various guys. I think the obvious requirements would be that it would have to be someone who's online often, almost everyday, someone who's been at least for a year in the forum and has a fair amount of posts to prove his involvement in the forum (+1000 I would say), and of course to be actually backed up by the other guys that he's well known and trusted for the job (of course that last part is what the voting would do).
Just my thoughts, it would be cool if we could all agree to do this (or if anyone has a better idea please do tell)

The few times Lasse has tried to "heavily" moderate the forum, everyone cried. Everyone is only down with it, if he's banning someone *they* think is a troll. Even if they're being the "troll". Or closing a thread *they* don't agree with. As a few poeple have pointed out there's a group (let's call them a forumance) of guys that are all like boyfriends. If a moderator feels they've fucked up and need "moderation", all their boyfriends come to their rescue and call him a nazi, etc. So I don't really see how that is going to work.
You don't have to read every thread on the forum. It's just how it is. If you think me or anyone, say NSGUITAR is an idiot, then don't participate in thread.
The reason so many new guys are looking for Joey's presets, is because "Joey" and "Sturgis" and "Attack Attack" are typed four-million times on the forum, so the forum comes up as soon as someone googles that shit. Stop talking about that shit, and they'll stop coming. It's really that simple.
The pod, slate, etc threads are no big deal as far as i'm concerned. No different than a couple of regulars constantly jerking off all over their own faces in every thread they start. Who fucking cares? Ignore it and move on, just like when you're outside the forum in the real world.

I think the problem when people where calling Lasse a Nazi was due to the fact that the rules he claimed where being broke weren't clearly defined in some sort of rules stickied in as the "AS Forum Rules, Read first before posting". The one that Lasse did make was vague and went over extremes and never went over consequences, so of course if the rules aren't clear cut and posters don't think what someone did was ban-able or thread lockable they are going to cry.
There definitely needs to be clear set rules with clearly set consequences for breaking each rule, and the mod needs to rule those rules with an iron fist. In reality the rules themselves should be only that which would prevent the flow of useful socializing of specific topic which would mean that all the higher well known and respectable members will never even notice that there are rules, they would serve as a warning to the new guys as well as a method of keeping the sub forums clean and organized.
I am actually curious as so who would want to be amongst the mods of the forum, I know that is something I have wanted to do, because unlike most of the higher posters I have the patients to explain things with someone a few times and have no problem having someone who can't follow the rules hate me for holding them to their actions. Its not just about ruling with an iron fist, the mod has to communicate with everyone and make members trust them, being able to explain and mediate conflicts or issues calmly. Where I think most of us almost fear Lasse and Metal Ages and that may be because they don't have time to mediate or resolve conflict, at the end of the day they have jobs to do and between them, Brett and Andy, can't truly mod everything that takes place around here.

The forum is what you choose to make it guys! There's been quite a bit of cool stuff lately, I.E. the Dio tribute, Felix's "Darktower", the reamp contest, Armadillos, etc, etc.
I haven't posted any 'how to' guides lately, but I am working on a series of instructional videos. You can be sure they will be posted here. Right now, I'm just waiting for my Glidecam to come in, then I'll be shooting a truckload of footage.
