No, you're definitely right; I wasn't condoning his actions one bit. I think my post was misunderstood.
I never sympathized with the guy who spat. I just remarked that it's the gesture which is associated with insulting and disrespecting another person in Western culture which is so aggravating, more than the saliva itself; this isn't to say that it IS disgusting when a stranger, or someone you're not close with decides to bombard you with his mixture.
