  • Well, probably. Bands that offer something new to the scene are very few.

I am wondering about this for long... Some people believe there's nothing metal has to offer today, most bands play the same old stuff and some that are trying to do something different end up being not so metal after all (like Opeth for example). Others say that no, metal is getting stronger with all these new and talented bands showing up and playing very well.... Some are somewhere in between, yes new bands play well but where are the huge 80's bands (Maiden, Priest, etc.) What do you think? I'm very curious....

Seeing the death metal scene here in Switzerland and the people at some festivals this year: No way!!! If the metal scene was dead then probably I would be it too. Don´t get it wrong, I´m not saying that I would kill myself if I would looste the faith in that music! It´s just that metal is my life! It´s all good that is hapening to me and I couldn´t imagine to live without it and all the nice people I met through it :headbang:

Metal is still original as it always was, see bands like Sigh, Solefald, Borknagar and so on. The latest album by Primordial was great.

enough said.

two others:
pain of salvation and soilwork.

exactly! great bands, all three of them. thank you for writing my thoughts down.

No way. We've still got bands like Neurosis, Enslaved, Isis, Mastodon, Arcturus, and more leading the way. There have been some good releases this year, in all subgenre's of metal. You always have to wait to find great stuff - it's always been like that.

I don't even like the last primordial...they're a good band but I just can't get into them

Arcturus and Sigh are good, In the woods were great Solefeld are massivley overrated if their last album is anything to go by. Winds(???) are good.

ehhh after that I can't think of much new metal that I like...seriously I can't think of any metal album in the last few years that did'nt dissappoint me

If you like Celtic Frost & experimental stuff you should definately check out SIGH, as others already have suggested. This band is simply way too cool, old CF-like riffs, maidenlike harmony guitars, and all sorts of musical madness which never fails to surprise!

yeah, sigh are definitely metal.....arcturus qualify too. the fact they are'nt completely predictable and boring probably affects their standing in some ppls eyes

but so called "power" bands like in "hamerfalls of icy harmonic rhapsody" are just parodies....cabaret metal for kiddies:
